We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Maria Shapley a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Maria thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.

At the time I was really struggling with anxiety. I had just experienced something pretty traumatic and the trauma resulted as anxiety. The work I used to do before I started my own business doing Intuitive Life Coaching was the study of Shamanic Psychology. I would travel everyday working in ceremonial spaces working with people, ceremonial plants and getting to know myself better. There was one plant I worked with called Kanna which changed my life. I’ll never forget the first time trying it, my heart felt like it completely opened and a feeling of bliss came over my body. This is why I decided to use Kanna as the main ingredient in Inner Hug. I needed to find a way to heal my anxiety and I knew this was the answer. I partnered with a company and chose the best natural ingredients into a proprietary blend that alleviates anxiety and stress within minutes. Although what I went through was really hard, I am happy I used my will to move forward and ended up creating something that has helped me and a lot of other people.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I am the founder and CEO of Somagenix.com and I have an Intuitive Life Coaching business intuitivecoachmaria.com, where I work privately with clients in clearing up their unconscious limiting beliefs so they don’t have to feel stuck anymore and guiding them in making positive choices to reach their goals. My goal is to inspire people to live a life they love and empower them to make bold choices in achieving what they want.

I come from a background where life was not always easy. Growing up in a household where there was constant fighting, putting me into a fearful state, contributing to IBS. I even grew up thinking I was unworthy of love because that’s what I saw in my parents. I chose to learn tools and trainings to change this story and heal those parts of me because I knew I deserved more. I did, and thankfully now I feel confident and worthy of love and my IBS has healed. I have been able to create a business and life for myself that feels rewarding and happy and I share this story because I want to let you know that it’s possible for you too.

Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?

Inner Hug is made by Somagenix—my company in California. We partnered with Hino Labs—a leading nutraceutical company who’s been working with Kanna and other herbs for over 25 years. We worked with their scientists to formulate Inner Hug and they help us manufacture it in their facilities in California.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?

I had to find an investor to put together the initial capital to fund my business.
