We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Maria Raquel. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Maria below.
Maria, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I have worked on is actually an upcoming song of mine called “Do You Hear the Colors?” After a year of releasing music, I have been working on finding the perfect sound that works for my voice. Then it just hit me—I realized that I have always grown up around EDM music, so why not try to play around with that genre?
I remember someone commenting something crazy, saying they started hearing colors. I thought that was a fun phrase and decided to turn it into a song. This song is so meaningful to me because it really represents who I am. I grew up on EDM, which has had an amazingly happy impact on my life. The song is upbeat and happy, not literally about hearing colors but as a metaphor for feeling carefree and enjoying life.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Maria Raquel, and I am an indie pop/dance artist. I grew up surrounded by EDM music, and after a year of making music, I am now leaning more into that genre. Music runs deep in my family. My great-grandmother was the music teacher for Tito Jackson and she was a violin virtuoso. My grandmother, mom, and dad were all drummers, so music has always been a part of my life.
One thing that stands out about my work is that I don’t just sing my music—I write and produce all of my songs. Additionally, all of my music is non-explicit. I believe there are many ways to express yourself without using curse words or inappropriate language. I firmly believe that the music you listen to influences who you are as a person. I strive to make my music upbeat and uplifting because, in a way, music is like affirmations you repeat to yourself. By creating lyrics that are positive affirmations, I hope to help listeners become rays of sunshine.
As an artist, I provide original, self-produced indie pop and EDM music that aims to uplift and inspire. I solve the problem of finding clean, positive music that can brighten someone’s day. What sets me apart is my holistic involvement in my music’s creation and my commitment to non-explicit content. I’m most proud of my ability to stay true to my values while still creating music that resonates with people.
I want potential clients, followers, and fans to know that my music is a reflection of my life and beliefs. It’s crafted with care to bring joy and positivity to listeners. My brand is all about spreading happiness and light through the power of music.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Hearing a melody and bringing it to life as a beautiful song is a wonderful experience. The process of making a song is very beautiful to me. Sometimes it starts with just going about my day—maybe I’m in the bathroom brushing my hair, and I hum a tune that I like. I’ll record it in my Voice Memos and save it for later because it was just an idea that came to my head. Taking that initial idea and turning it into a whole song is incredibly rewarding. Receiving feedback from my fans, creating an emotional connection with them, and putting them in a good mood are all aspects that make this process so fulfilling.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to bring people together from all walks of life with my music. Even though we all speak different languages, I believe there is one language we all understand: music. The beats, the flows, and the melodies come together to create a beautiful space for us all.
A few years ago, my grandmother passed away due to suicide. I want to continue the lineage of music in my family and help others in their lowest times. By uplifting them through my music and putting them in a good mood, I hope to make their day a little brighter. My mission is to let more people hear my music and to have genuine connections with my listeners. My goal is to have fun, be creative, and make as many projects as I can.
