We were lucky to catch up with Maria Mihaylova recently and have shared our conversation below.
Maria, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Some of the most interesting parts of our journey emerge from areas where we believe something that most people in our industry do not – do you have something like that?
Most people in my industry strongly disagree with influencers giving any skin care advice.
I have seen people damaging their skin almost beyond repair, or to repair the damage is very expensive, only because someone on social media said it works.
It does not end there. There are all these sites selling chemical peels, who knows what is in them. One would think that everyone looking to get a deep chemical peel would choose to visit a licensed professional, for safety, Way too often that is not the case.
I had a first client once, nineteen years old. Her acne was not even that bad, just few break outs here and there. For following the advice of an influencer, she had a first degree burn. It took her a visit to the dermatologist, and several facials to repair that.
Always seek the help of professionals, in any industry or field.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am an esthetician. I specialize in skin care. My main focus is a glowing, healthy skin. Some clients come with dry skin, some come with acne issues. As long as the problem is in my scope of practice, my goal is for them to leave feeling and looking better than how they come in. I want people who book a treatment with me, to know that that is their time for themselves.
Honesty has been the main ingredient in my practice, along with extensive knowledge about products, procedures, nutrition, and skills. In my treatment room, you will never feel pushed to purchase anything.
I am not bond to any brand. If it is good or helpful, I will use it during the treatment, or recommend it for home care, even if it is not for sale in my practice. That been said, some of my favorite product lines are GlyMed, Face Reality, Sesderma, ZO Skin Care, and products that I purchase directly from several labs.
In my treatment room, there are no add ons. If your skin needs it, and I am certified to do it, it is included in the facial.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
To keep in touch with my clients, I started a newsletter, called The Interesting Newsletter, in which I share experiences, music, skin care tips, other businesses I have good experiences with. I also introduce clients of mine, and their events, professions, or anything interesting going on. The idea of the newsletter is to feel like we are having a cup of coffee and talking about everything.
Surprisingly, it was shared so many times, that now I have subscribers from all over. Here is a link to it.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Word of mouth. I owe my success to my wonderful clients, and I am forever thankful for that.
