Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Maria Luque. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Maria, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you get your first job in the field that you practice in today?
I found my passion for menopause when I noticed that many of my clients and friends were going through menopause and having a rough time. At that time (2010), I was at a point in my Ph.D. studies where I had to pick a topic for my dissertation, and I picked that. I conducted a study evaluating the impact of physical activity on quality of life during menopause, which was the beginning of my path. Since then, I have focused all of my work on researching menopause- and movement-related topics because I want to help women lead their healthiest and happiest lives.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Why I do what I do: To help women in menopause and peri-menopause maximize their quality of life. As a health educator and fitness expert, I aim to combine my love for fitness and education to help women live a better and healthier life. I strongly believe that education is the key to succeeding at anything you set your mind to. So, ensuring that women understand the WHY is at the core of everything I do. That’s why I created my company “Fitness in Menopause.” It is dedicated to helping women navigate the challenges and rewards of menopause.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Over the last 20 years, my focus has been, and continues to be, providing evidence-based information and services. However, at the core of it all, is my belief that meeting people where they are in any given moment, judgment-free, and with compassion, is what makes all the difference. I have never compromised my integrity or self to make a sale or have associated myself with questionable companies/individuals. My focus is the wellbeing of my clients and that the information I share is credible and relevant. My passion for sharing education and genuine interest in helping women has been my guiding light. It will continue to be so.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
My clientele has grown 100% from referrals, and I believe it is because I don’t focus on how I can get the next client. I focus on giving my absolute best to my current clients, which has translated into them referring me to other people. I never compromise the quality of service I provide.
