Maria Juliana , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
The logo is based on our motto Tennis 4 FUN, which means 0% pressure and 100% FUNdamentals and FUN!! Tennis is a proven lifetime sport that gathers kids and families for enjoyment and FUN.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Maria Juliana Velasco. I have been in the tennis industry for more than 20 years. I have had the privilege to be able to play tennis since I was 9 years old. At the age of 15, I ranked number 3 in tennis in my hometown in Colombia.
I graduated from Southeastern State Oklahoma University with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education where I played in Division II college tennis. In singles, I played in position #2 and in doubles, I was in position #1. Tennis has been a calling and a major passion in my life. It has helped grow in all spheres of my life (especially personally and professionally).
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When we started offering the program to schools, it did not seem like anyone was really interested. I would have individuals tell me they would call me back, and then there was no response. Little by little God started opening doors and we have been very thankful to the schools who gave us the opportunity to bring the tennis program to their sites. We learned to persevere and never give up on our dreams. We wanted other kids to know the joy found in playing tennis.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Keep working hard and don’t give up on your dreams!
