We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Maria & Jesus Cabezas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Maria & Jesus, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
We both come from immigrant parents that migrated many years ago to the US from Cuba. From a young age we have seen the hard work and dedication our parents have put forth to succeed in this country. With that said it did not come easy for them to make it in this country. They impacted our lives daily by showing us what extremely hard work, dedication and sacrifice can afford you. Our parents showed us that kindness and a great work ethic can get you a very long way and that is something we pride ourselves on daily. We as a team and business owners treat each client as a friend and always work tirelessly to make sure they are happy with our work and it has proven to work time and time again.
Maria & Jesus, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We are a husband and wife team but are also parents to our three beautiful daughters. Along with running the business my husband is also a local Firefighter in our home town of Naples,FL. We are in the event industry but we specialize in any size event with an emphasize on one of a kind custom backdrops and balloon work. We mainly focus on providing our clients with custom event backdrops ranging from colorful kids events to the most lavish and tasteful adult events. We feel what sets us apart from others in the industry especially locally is our work ethic. We treat each and every client with the utmost attention and respect. It all starts with a simple inquiry on our website but from there we pride ourselves in continuously communicating with each client to give them a one of a kind experience. We are most proud of the scope of what we can accomplish with just a few small visions from a client. We take their ideas and transform them to a real life tangible experience for them and their loved ones to enjoy. We would love to have any potential clients know that we can take what they thought could be possible and turn into something they have never seen before.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
The biggest thing people might struggle with when it comes to our creative process/ journey is the actual amount of work that no one sees. Clients get to see the final product but from the moment a client sends in a deposit the clock starts to tick. We need to spend hours finding the correct color scheme for balloons and a location that sells those balloons (there’s been a pretty impactful balloon shortage). If that cannot be found we need to create a custom color for that particular event. Next would be the design process, we spend hours custom designing back drops on photoshop to be sent to a custom print shop. Once done with that we now have send our items to print and then we have to pick these items up. Depending on the size of an event, a single large scale event with printed backdrops can cost thousands of dollars just to print. Next comes the task of actually blowing up each balloon ( relax we have balloons pumps LOL) but this could take a day or a week to have anywhere from 300 to our most recent event which was 4,500 balloons. Lastly comes the day of installation which could be a few hours or could take as much as three days to complete depending on the amount of work. Clients pay for this service and many feel that its a simple process but we may have to put days if not weeks of work to reach the end goal.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist for us is the ability to make what would just be an idea or dream turn into a real life item. We love the reactions of our clients as we get to deliver happy memories.
