We were lucky to catch up with Maria Hink recently and have shared our conversation below.
Maria, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about the best advice you’ve ever given to a client?
The best advice I gave a client was to “trust the process” We had been looking at homes, for a while, and we were getting beat out in multiple offer situations. My client, as a single mom, had very specific needs & terms that we had to stay in. We finally got an accepted offer, and we were ecstatic, but the inspection highlighted some issues that had us back out of the offer. It was a very hard decision, but we kept our focus on “trust the process” and I was able to get my client home. I still get together with my client, & she sends me home with the most amazing food-she is a great cook.

Maria, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I moved to Minnesota from India in 2001, and pretty soon started working with a company that provides services for autism and early childhood mental health services. For the next, almost 2 decades, I worked with individuals on the autism spectrum & loved helping them thrive. COVID changed that, I found it increasingly challenging to meet the constantly evolving needs. The restrictions & challenges pushed me to reevaluate my career path. My passion is for serving and supporting people, I can still do that in the real-estate industry. I am using my skills in communication, problem-solving, and advocacy to navigate the home buying and selling process. I passionately believe that everyone deserves a seat at the table, I serve a diverse community & homeownership is a key pathway to financial stability. I quickly became aware that there are many barriers to homeownership especially in the AANHPI community. My background in education, & my heart for service led me to join the largest Asian organization in North America & to serve on the board of the local chapter. AREAA’s mission is promoting sustainable homeownership opportunities in Asian American communities by creating a powerful national voice for housing and real estate professionals that serve this dynamic market.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Making the pivot to real estate was a scary decision. There were so many unknowns. The most important decision I made was to get started, I got to learn & develop my skills but felt the need to find a company that better aligned with my goals. I had to take responsibility for my life, look closely at what was holding me back and make a strategic move. Switching companies was not just about my career growth, it was also an indication of my resillience & commitment to finding the best ways to serve my clients. I have had to adapt, step out of my comfort zone, & learn. I have been challenged, & grown through it. Real brokerage & the team I am on has been the fresh start I needed to grow. The company’s core values of we over me & work hard & be kind are a reflection of mine. I always say, ” do the next right thing” I have done things scared, but pushing forward is what drives success.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clients has been to genuinely connect with my clients & providing them with the latest market information. I show them that their story matters. It goes beyond that one transaction, for me it is about building lasting relationships. Everyone has a story, it is an honor for me to be a part of such an important chapter of their story.
You have no idea what your legacy will be, because your legacy is every life you touch.
