Maria, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
I establish standards aligned with those of the European Union. For my skincare brand, this translates to a commitment of transparency in my formulation process and the ingredients I select. In the EU, they have several thousand banned ingredients. I follow this strict way of formulating, ensuring safe, high-quality skincare products. At this time, the United States does not regulate ingredients used in skincare. Cosmetic companies are not required to share ingredients used in their skincare products.

Maria, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have always had a passion for harnessing the power of nature. Growing up on a small farm in Wisconsin, I discovered the art of utilizing plants for their healing properties. My skincare brand, Luminous Rose follows this same path. My products are made in small batches using plants. We truly don’t need heavy chemicals when it comes to skincare. Plants offer a tremendous amount of healing along with anti-aging properties. My customers come to me seeking natural alternatives to help with acne, aging and rosacea. Plants can absolutely support these skin concerns.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
As an entrepreneur, I wear many hats. I am literally one person researching, formulating and hand-pouring all of my skincare. Last year, I took a pause to recharge and recalibrate my direction. Although it was challenging to temporarily pause, it turned out to be the right choice. It allowed me to come back more authentically aligned with my purpose and brand.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Referrals are the absolute best source of new clients. Skincare can be very personal and it’s hard to switch. People spend so much money on empty promises and then have cabinets of skincare. When your sister or best friend expresses their love for your product and the visible difference it has made to their skin, it means everything to me. Customer testimonials like these are the most valuable form of advertising for my business.
