A decade-long stint in the restaurant industry had left me yearning for something more, a deeper sense of fulfillment in life. I firmly believed that within me resided the ability to lead a life imbued with purpose, passion, and the opportunity to make a direct, meaningful impact on others.
My first encounter with jewelry making occurred during my high school days, when I eagerly enrolled in a class dedicated to this art form. Although captivated by the craft, I had never acted upon the knowledge imparted to me. However, as I teetered on the cusp of turning 30, contemplating the prospect of starting a family, I recognized the imperative need to redirect the course of my life, seeking a path that would propel me towards more significant achievements.
Amidst this contemplation, I caught sight of the tools I had acquired years ago, now gathering dust in a forgotten closet. A whimsical idea seized hold of my imagination: jewelry could be my refuge, my escape from the mundane. The audacity of this notion stemmed from the fact that my previous experience amounted to just a single semester’s instruction a decade earlier, a skill I had scarcely practiced since. Nevertheless, propelled by an unwavering mission, I resolved to invest wholeheartedly in pursuing this newfound passion.
Embarking on this journey, I swiftly discovered that jewelry making is an endeavor that demands considerable resources. The initial year was marked by a devoted immersion in online tutorials, balancing this newfound pursuit with my full-time role as a server. During every available moment, I dedicated myself to practice, delving into the realms of trial and error. As time passed, a delightful surprise awaited me: people began to take notice of the jewelry I wore, showering me with compliments and expressing their desire to purchase these exquisite pieces. Encouraged by this positive response and armed with a growing inventory, I resolved to take the plunge and participate in local craft shows. The community of Kauai, in particular, proved to be an oasis for artists, embracing handmade goods and the spirit reinvention. With enthusiasm, I embarked on this next chapter of my journey, all while maintaining my position at the restaurant.
In 2017, an extraordinary opportunity materialized, one that demanded careful analysis and summoned my courage to take a leap of faith. In a remarkable display of self-assurance, despite being largely self-taught and only two years into my artistic odyssey, I decided to open my first brick-and-mortar location. Nestled near the Harbor in Kauai, a small kiosk awaited me, serving as the perfect launching pad for my entrepreneurial ambitions.
This pivotal decision served as a catalyst for unprecedented growth. To my delight, my very first month at the kiosk exceeded all expectations, leading me to tender my two-week notice at the restaurant within the first couple of months. As I reduced my hours there to a mere two shifts a week, I poured my heart and soul into this exhilarating experiment.
Without a doubt, this has been the most transformative decision of my life. Fast forward seven years, and I now work with precious metals such as silver and gold, embellishing my creations with exquisite natural gemstones. My repertoire has expanded, allowing me to craft awe-inspiring, one-of-a-kind jewelry for my cherished clientele. Operating mainly on a commission basis, I cherish the intimate collaboration with clients, where we embark on a journey together, creating something special one art piece at a time.

In 2017, shortly after opening my kiosk business on Kauai, I faced a breast cancer diagnosis for the first time. It was a profound and life-altering experience. Determined to overcome it, I made the decision to seek treatment in Brazil, extending my stay far beyond what I had initially planned.
After undergoing treatment, I returned to Kauai with a renewed sense of purpose. Despite the physical and emotional toll, I was determined to rebuild and regain normalcy in my life. Returning to work was crucial for my well-being. It provided me with a routine, a sense of stability, and allowed me to focus on my craft.
Starting over wasn’t easy, but I embraced the challenge with resilience. Each day, I entered my studio with a determined mindset, pouring my energy into creating beautiful pieces. Through this process, I discovered the true power of resilience – the ability to navigate through adversity and emerge stronger on the other side.
