We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful María Fernanda Vogel. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with María Fernanda below.
María Fernanda , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
I’ve recently pondered upon the value of order and chaos in life. It’s almost a constant game and balance between leading a life or order and focus and also having an intense thirst for adventure and unpredictability.
Looking back, I believe my parent’s guidance and support instilled an internal meter for this and I dare to say this was instinctively instilled. Now, I think that beautiful dance between responsibility and exploration has been essential to my growth. I always say my mom is my harshest critic and most devout supporter. It’s a beautiful mix; I’ve truly come to the conclusion that both are necessary to thrive. To make a sustainable, lasting career in the arts requires both. Not to say that it’s always in perfect balance; this has been a huge challenge for me since day one. However I am deeply appreciative of this lesson. It’s deeply transformative and has allowed me to always look into what I can do better to perfect my craft and it’s impact, yet also enjoy the beautiful, unpredictable ride that is a life as a creative.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
“My name is María Fernanda and I’m a Nicaraguan-American artist inspired by the rich stories, colors, and traditions of my cultural roots. Art has always been my way of connecting with the world and celebrating life’s beauty and complexity. I create bold, expressive paintings that blend themes of joy, resilience, and identity, drawing on both my heritage and modern influences.
I don’t think I can say what sets me apart from others. That’s a question I would prefer the public answers, What I can say is that my intent and purpose is that every artwork tells a story and transforms spaces while resonating deeply with others. I’m proud of how my work has fostered meaningful connections, from successful exhibitions to collaborations that highlight the power of art to inspire and unite.
For those discovering my work, I want them to know that it’s driven by passion, authenticity, and a desire to celebrate life and culture.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
To be honest, the most profound and transformative books that have shaped my career for the positive have very little or nothing to do at all with art. If I can share a piece of advice that has worked for me in terms of making my career stronger is: ” build a strong foundation for your philosophy of life and incorporate that into your passion”. This is probably the best advice I can give anyone starting in this field. Having a clear and solid idea of who you are, what you want and what your purpose is not important, it is essential for success.
Amongst some recent literature that have had a deep impact in my life and career have been ” Change your Brain, Change your Life” by Dr. Daniel G Amen. This book helped understand the human brain ( which is the basis and source of all human creation at the deepest level. How can we expect to understand ourselves, life, philosophy and purpose if we don’t understand the organ that drives it at all? It’s completely scientifically based yet it gives you the tools to know what to avoid, nurture and understand if you want to be your happiest, most successful self.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Be genuine. Be yourself and don’t think of it as your end goal unless you want to be a social media influencer.
“Good” is always better than “perfect”. Don’t be nervous or scared to show your art. The worst that could happen doesn’t even come close to what you might miss out on. Your our end goal is not to appeal to every single person nor to share every detail of your life for attention. If your goal is to be an impactful artist, you must aim to connect with your audience, build a community and share what your work is about and the narrative your art is providing to your community.
