We recently connected with Maria Carter and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Maria thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I started cooking & baking because of my grandmother. I have always been in the kitchen since a little girl. I was diagnosed with cancer almost 9 years ago, my grandmother passed almost 3 years ago and I just had surgery 1 month ago. The reason I started my business was to help people like me who didn’t have a lot of money that the dispensaries want. My passion for cooking comes from within, I think it was passed from my grandmother because I’m really the only one that will get in the kitchen like her.
Maria, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello I’m Maria, I’m from New Orlean,La. I’m a 37 year old home baker and a cancer survivor! I got into this industry because I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer almost 9 years ago. Since then I have made a business from my diagnosis. I have an edible business that I started 6 years ago from home. My business infuses anything edible or that can be infused with cannabis. I had the pleasure of finally getting the business a LLC a year ago. My discipline comes from my dedication to my craft. We do some pop up shops or sale from home, we also ship to all 50 states. The problems we solve are all if we have any for the most part my business caters to the customers. I feel what sets me apart is that I go far and behind not just for my customers but for my treats as well. I try to come up with products that no other has done or infused. The most thing that I am proud of is that I established my business by myself without any help and that makes me appreciate it more because of my hard work and dedication. I would love for people to understand that my business is here and open for medical help, relaxation, knowledge and a great taste.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I first started by making a business page. I started adding friends from that page. Then I started browsing other pages that was doing the same thing I’m doing and following their followers. I did that on all social media sites my business is on. I also did promotions to get followers like, free treats ect. I would tell them to do pop up shops and promote, promote & promote!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
My best strategy is going to people pages on the social media sites that do the same thing in your state and in different states adding people to your platform.
