We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful María Blanc. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with María below.
Alright, María thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
Yes, thanks to hard work, effort, and patience in the process, I have managed to make a living from painting and discover my true essence. I have learned to flow with art instead of forcing it.
My trajectory could be defined as a constant expression of beauty, where the work, simplicity, and essence are the undisputed protagonists. Through a process of reduction that distills the very essence of artistic creation, I invite a deep meditation on the relationship between man and nature.
I have dedicated my whole life to painting, although I studied Interior Architecture at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. It has been a natural oscillation, where the world of design has influenced all my art.
Another challenge I have faced in my artistic career has been gaining recognition. However, I have overcome this through social media and exhibitions, which have also allowed me to meet creators whose work I greatly admire.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
In our fast-paced times, where reflection and contemplation seem to have been forgotten, I offer artwork where abstraction reaches a purist conception, occasionally bordering on the minimalist. The result is a harmony based on voids, where the absence of elements takes on vital importance. The void becomes form and an integral part of the work, inviting us to enjoy what is not there, what is missing. In short, an artistic work in multiple formats that invites us to pause, breathe, contemplate, and above all, enjoy.
I also create custom and commissioned works, offering a unique and personalized experience based on my collections and style. All the services I offer can be acquired through my website blancmaria.com

How did you build your audience on social media?
I believe it’s very important to develop and create a unique personal style that sets you apart from everyone else, in addition to conveying your passion for your work. All this requires consistency and a great deal of patience and hard work. One of my favorite quotes on this topic is from the artist Laurie Simmons:
“Focus on your work and what you believe you need to do, rather than what people expect you to do. Concentrate on your work and have the confidence and patience that it will find the space, attention, and context it needs.” – Laurie Simmons

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Due to my architectural background, I am deeply interested in the graphic and clean aspects of each piece, which I apply to all my works. In fact, I am often told that I have a strong affinity for Japanese philosophy, where peace and harmony are a true reflection of my concept of beauty. I draw inspiration from a diverse array of sources, encompassing references, experiences, and the work of many multidisciplinary artists in the realms of design, art, sculpture, and architecture. Influential figures for me include the likes of Eames, Aino Aalto, Noguchi, Rodin, Brancusi, Matisse, John Pawson, Agnes Martim, and Helen Frankenthaler.
