We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Maria and Kenrick Guillermo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Maria and Kenrick below.
Maria and Kenrick , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
I hope that our legacy will be that when we story-tell through photos and films that it is authentic to the individual/s on the other side of the camera. We want to always be a safe and inviting place for self-expression and love. We want to be able to challenge the norms and create a world that see’s the value in being true to oneself.
We want to help lead a trailblaze of choosing to live up to your own standards.
We want our clients and their loved ones to look back at these photos and films and remember the moments that makes life feel whole.
We are creating a heirloom for our clients to leave behind and create their own legacy.
That is especially important to us within the 2SLGBTQIA+ and POC communities.
Maria and Kenrick , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello! We are Maria and Kenrick a married couple that went into the photography/film industry together. We have a family together, love to go thrifting for unique art, and enjoy traveling to see breathtaking views. We started our family at an early age. We didn’t meet our family members religious standards, which lead us to getting married at an early stage of life. We don’t regret committing to one another but we do wish that there was a least one person that made us feel seen for who we are as individuals and what would feel intentional to us when it comes to celebrating our love. Our business encourages and celebrates couples that want to create their own last name.
We love to see gender roles being dismantled. We strongly believe that the attention should always be on the genuine emotions that is shared in our collective human experience.
Our discipline involves being curious about our clients and who they are, what they care about, and their values. We are creatives who love to document every aspect of life.
When we go into a wedding, commercial service, adoption day, family session, and creative self portraits we keep in mind how valuable and a privilege it is to document these events.
We are most proud of how often we leave a wedding making new life-long connections. We are so proud to have helped launch brand names like Blackbird that aims to cultivate culture and community. We are proud to work with a mental health clinic that wants to revolutionize the mental health standards. We are so proud to have documented a very special moment for a couple that after many failed attempts were able to adopt and officially create a family. We are so proud and humbled to be of service to all of our clients and newly found friends.
We believe that we are creating rad love by the intent that we put into everything that we do.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a creative personally would be the impact that we make. We love our community and want to see everyone thrive and feel valued. When our clients tells us that we made them feel so comfortable being in front of our cameras, there is no greater feeling. We know that it takes a lot of vulnerability for our clients to allow themselves to be seen.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for us is word of mouth. Our clients organically share about their experience with us to their friends and family. When we get an inquiry from someone that is familiar with our work through our client we get so excited. To us it is like gowning an extended family.
