We recently connected with Marguerite Pluviose and have shared our conversation below.
Marguerite, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
I’ve had many triumphs in life as well as setbacks. I think the key of being successful is through setbacks and learning from the failure and moving forward. Even when things seem impossible or setbacks keep holding you back, focus on ways that you can develop your skills and keep soldiering forward no what. There have been times when I thought a mistake would be the end of my career but then I remember we are human and human are allowed to make mistakes in order for us to learn. Success doesn’t happen overnight but it happens through experiences.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Fashion and jewelry have always been my passion. My love for the two was inspired by my mother, a woman whose style was elegant and timeless. I adored watching her dress up, as she carefully chose her clothes and the jewelry to complement the outfit. I remember wanting to be like her so bad. Unfortunately, I was only eleven years old when she passed away and with that, I instantly knew I wanted to work in the fashion industry with clothes, jewelry, and accessories. Fast forward, twenty years later with a complete study of Fashion Design under my belt and fifteen years of retail experience, I decided I wanted to start my online boutique. GlamHaulJewelz was born on January 1st, 2019. I decided to curate an online boutique that featured all the trendy accessories without breaking my consumers’ pocket. Our proclamation is, “Who said jewelry can’t be fun and eccentric?.” We have exciting collections of customized pieces for our customers to enjoy personalizing their jewelry. GlamHaulJewelz began as a side business and evolved into something even major. Last year we hit our first $30k in sales and it was a serious accomplishment and milestone for me at GlamHaulJewelz. My goals are to continue building my brand, to hit a $100k by next year in sales, and become a major force in the fashion industry.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
When I started GlamHaulJewelz, I didn’t really draw up a plan or any start-up money. Honestly, I just got up one day and said to myself, “I’m finally going to setup shop and if it fails, it fails. If it doesn’t, then great! At least I tried.” But the thing about starting a business without a plan, is you become lost along the way because you’re making up things as you go, and this became a challenge for me. Eventually, I didn’t see any results, just a few sales here and there, but nothing substantial. I decided to put GlamHaulJewelz on the back burner. In the early parts of 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic was taken seriously, America began to quarantine, and then I was furloughed from my current employment. All in that order. As I faced quarantine, I made a solid promise to capitalize on the time I now have on my hands. I enrolled in free business and marketing courses and started applying my knowledge to GlamHaulJewelz. Finally, the seed that I planted was starting to grow. One of biggest Milestones was selling over 1000 units within a year. Today we are have added more Jewelry and even Handbags and Clothes. Our Revenue has almost double since we first started the brand.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
“Word of Mouth” this maybe the oldest technique in sales till this very day. But we have always believed if we can sell to at least one customer that one customer will then tell 5 other people about our brand and their experience. This is how our brand have continuously grown throughout the years. Also, our social media content through Instagram,Twitter, and TikTok has brought of some of customer base as well.
