We were lucky to catch up with Marguerite Levinge recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Marguerite, thanks for joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
I have been a photographer for almost 13 years now. I had a very strong presence and clientele in North Georgia. In early 2022 we listed our home with the hopes of relocating closer to the wedding and photography venue I have been working with for the last several years. Unfortunately with the housing market crazy as it was we sold our home and couldn’t find another. We have 5 children so we could just settle for anything. On a whim we decided to uproot and move back to my hometown that I hadn’t lived in for 20 years. Now we find our selves in Birmingham and I’m having to start my business from scratch again. It’s been both a terrifying and amazing journey. It’s been trying for sure but I wish we had made the move sooner! I’m steadily building my clientele again and absolutely love the area!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Marguerite, I am a wife and mom of 5. I’m the owner and person behind the camera at Rockin’ Red Photography. I have always loved all things art and creative. So it was natural for me to transition to photography. After I had my second child I started really pursing my love of photography and the potential to make some extra income as a stay at home mom. By the time I had my 3rd baby I was back at work rather fast and finding my hours to be much more full time. Now this is my full time career and I wouldn’t trade it for anything! I don’t like to say that a specialize in any one type of photography other than portraits! I love everything from weddings and couples to births and newborns to stylized portraits and boudoir! It keeps me on my toes and definitely keeps me from ever being bored with my work. I am not one to like to talk about my self and my accomplishments truly it’s rather awkward for me haha. But I do often hear from my clients how easy I am to work with, how understanding and comfort I make them during our session. And how patient I am with babies and a difficult children. I definitely think it helps that I’m a homeschooling mom of 5 myself. I do understand that every child has their moments and there is nothing we can do about that! I try very hard to go with the flow and do what I can to capture moments and memories however that may be.
The one thing that definitely makes me love photography more than anything is being able to capture some of life’s most amazing moment for people. From the moment you confess love and marriage vows, to watching your families grow and add your first baby or sometimes multiple babies, to milestone along the way and even being able to capture your loved ones for what may be the last images you have of them. These are such precious gifts to give and very cherished. It’s truly an honor!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I honestly thing what has helped me build my business has been putting in the time and work to hone in my skill and look. Consistency is so vital when it comes to photography! When you have consistency in quality your clients with refer you to others. Word of mouth goes such a long way!

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Staying active in my community especially with local social media groups has been huge for my business. Making sure I update and post regularly and doing my best to respond to people in a timely manner. I think it goes a long way when you are willing to take the time to communicate and answer all and any questions and concerns of your potential clients.
