We recently connected with Margo Jordan and have shared our conversation below.
Margo, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
As the founder of this company, my core belief is that you teach best what you need the most and as a young girl who grew up in Milwaukee, WI with low self-esteem I was at risk of not living to my full potential. This problem led to this solution that I developed with my first startup being a brick and mortar that was ultimately a pivot after the pandemic into an e-learning platform and gaming app that makes personal development accessible to kids globally.
Margo, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Growing up as a kid with low self-esteem I made a bunch of poor decisions. I didn’t want my decisions to define who I was so I joined the military and it was there where I developed a sense of self discipline allowing my self-esteem to flourish. A child’s poor self-esteem and self-image leads to critical problems for decision makers such as increased self-neglect, youth violence or even suicide and decreased academic achievement and or student involvement. Children with low self-esteem struggle to reach their potential as adults and this leads to a massive social and economic burden costing millions per year. The staggering statistics of 75% of children suffering from low self-esteem and the 57% increase in suicide death amongst youth fueled my reasonings for wanting to pioneer a new industry.
We use machine learning, gamification and data automation to make self-esteem improvement fun for K-12 while providing an on-site mental health curriculum for schools. A child’s personal development happens in one of three ways; experts, individual learning or peer to peer engagement. We sell our software and on-site curriculum to schools and we offer our platform to parents in the form of a subscription. We also have a’la carte services that we offer in which we provide one day experiences to their schools in which we bring celebrities and influencers to the schools for an accelerated self-esteem improvement program.
Our unique value proposition is that we offer adaptive, individualized programs for every learner while uniquely engaging our students. School leadership is motivated to solve problems that come as a direct result of unhealthy self-esteem such as low academic acheivement, self neglect, violent behavior and suicide. Schools also have the budget to spend so they can direct funds to using platforms such as this one.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I secured $300k+ non-dilutive funding through pitch competitions, grants and accelerators. I also secured angel investment and VC funding through pitching my business on Clubhouse of all places and building relationships through fellowship programs that I participated in.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I’ve been able to continue building my company after a quick pivot when the pandemic hit. We were completely brick and mortar and made the strategic choice to go completely digital. After hundreds of pitches to investors we were still able to secure multiple 6 figure contracts and grow the platform in such an impactful way.
