Margie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
I started on this entrepreneur journey late in my career and I think that is risky. Risky, because I should be aggressively saving for retirement-taking only calculated risks but I no longer enjoyed working in spaces that did not lend to my personal fulfillment. So I started a business, in a pandemic. Risky! Believing my work should be joyful even felt risky, but I was willing to find out.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I am the founder of Get Cozy with Emme- a home good business with handmade Chunky Knit blankets as the focal offering of the business. Business has now expanded and we offer blankets, pet nappers, hand poured soy candles, fragrance oil and apparel. I am proud of the fact that I can work a job that is my own brain child. I want potential clients to know that I craft each blanket with love and want everyone to experience the coziness I found to save myself.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn the belief that starting a business is too hard and not worth the headache.
At the start of this journey, sharing with friends and family was met with all the reasons not to start a business. In those conversations, I had to unlearn that getting buy in from your circle is not mandatory.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Word of mouth is critical so do your best job with each product and provide a great customer experience. Customer reviews has given my business great momentum, don’t take it for granted.
