We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Margaux Stinar a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Margaux, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
After arriving in the USA with my 90 day fiancé visa to marry the love of my life Jerdan, I wasn’t able to work for months. We were living at my (now) husband’s mom’s ranch in the middle of nowhere in Central MN and I had absolutely nothing to do while I was waiting for my Green Card. The year before I moved, my brother offered me my very first camera while on a trip to Madeira for my birthday. I started taking pictures of the horses at the ranch with that camera and my mother in law started a new Husky Business. I helped her with her website and I took pictures of the dogs for her. After sharing my pictures on my private social media, my friends in MN started to notice me and my photography. What started as a hobby to pass time quickly became my dream job. Months later, a dear friend of mine (from when I was an exchange student) asked me to photograph her wedding at THE venue of my dreams: Stone Hill Farm Venue in Eagle Bend. I’ve never been to a wedding before in my life and my photography skills were still a working progress since it was still just a hobby at this time. She trusted me and I did it! It was such an unforgettable day. My love for wedding photography began thanks to her! After this wedding, I started doing more pictures still as a hobby but then in 2020, I decided to really go for it and start my business as Margaux Alice Photography.

Margaux, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Margaux and I am a French photographer located in Central Minnesota who specializes in working with couples and families. I am the proud “maman” to my two sons Björn and Elias and daughter Lou and married to the love of my life Jerdan. I have been a photographer for a little over 4 years now. I discovered photography thanks to my brother Eliot who always carried his camera everywhere he went. On my birthday, my parents and him offered me my very first camera while on vacation in Madeira and my passion for photography began! As a photographer and storyteller, my mission is to understand your own story, notice all the little details and authentically capture it though my lens by freezing those moments in time. Every story, every couple, every family, every person is unique. I truly put all my love, creativity and passion into every single photo I capture and edit.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
One the most rewarding aspect of being a photographer is the chance to capture unique moments and images for someone. I get to freeze incredible moments in time and capture breathtaking moments that can be remembered forever and bring joy to my clients and that is to rewarding to me.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Photography is not just about capturing images. To me, it’s about capturing raw and authentic emotions and stories. My mission and my goal are to capture these special moments and create unique photographs that my clients will cherish forever.
