We were lucky to catch up with Marcus Wicks recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Marcus thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
Transitioning from concept to execution is one of the most challenging—and crucial—steps in starting a business. For me, the first step involved conducting thorough market research to ensure my brand would stand out in the fitness apparel industry. I dedicated about 3 to 4 days, investing a few hours each day alongside my full-time job, to analyze competitors and identify unique selling points.
The next, and perhaps most difficult, step was bringing my business name to life. As someone who tends to overthink, this process proved challenging, but I was fortunate to receive valuable support along the way.
The final phase was execution, where I focused on creating clothing designs and collaborating with a supplier to develop the ideal blend of materials. My primary objective was to design apparel that balances a fitted silhouette with comfort, ensuring that it meets the needs of active individuals.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
What sets me apart from others is my unwavering desire to be unique. I have never been one to follow the crowd; from a young age, I’ve always forged my own path and crafted my own journey. This drive for individuality fuels my passion for innovation and inspires me to create something truly distinct in the fitness apparel industry.
We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
Among the many options available, I have chosen Shopify for its user-friendly platform and seamless integration features. Shopify not only made the website-building process straightforward but also provided valuable tools such as easy-to-manage customer reviews and convenient connections to my business’s social media platforms.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I funded my business using personal capital. Through a solid understanding of investing and strategic use of my savings, I was able to secure the necessary funds to launch my venture.
