We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Marcus Tucker. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Marcus below.
Marcus, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on thus far has been my tour, A Goofy Tour. This tour commenced in January 2023 and ended in February 2023.
This project was meaningful to me because I put it together entirely by myself. It was my first time organizing a tour and it took a lot of time, dedication, persistence, and organization to see through. Putting together this tour showed me so much about myself.
This project also gave my friends an opportunity they never had before, as this was all their first time touring as well. It was very meaningful to me to be a part of their journey.
Marcus, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi, I’m 3SIDEGOOF. I’m a music artist from the DMV. I primarily make Hip-Hop music, but I occasionally do R&B and Pop as well. I’ve been writing raps since my teenage years. Its going to seem strange, but I would’ve never started raps had I not had this surreal experience while fishing long ago.
I remember catching a fish at the dock and being so excited because it was the first time I ever caught one. I held the fish in my hands as it writhed and I studied my catch with great pride. Then to my surprise, because it had a large hook through its fishy bottom lip, it began to talk. Not only did it talk, but it did so in rhyme. I can’t recall exactly what it said, but I do remember it impressively rhymed “throw me back” with “bologna snack”. I decided then and there to throw the fish back to the water. He made a heart-tugging argument and was honestly too impressive of a creature to end up on a Dixie paper plate.
It was that rhyming fish who inspired me to make rhymes of my own.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My personal goal is to remind people that Hip-Hop has always been about rapping about anything that can be rapped about. The topics and subject matter in Hip-Hop lately have been largely relegated to money, fake friends, and drugs. My goal is to rap about literally everything else in hopes that I can show audiences and fellow artists that Hip-Hop is limitless.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I had known earlier about websites like Shopify. I’ve been making merch for my music ever since I noticed my fanbase was growing, so in my earlier forays I’d buy merch in bulk–which is very expensive and risky (if no one buys your merch, you’ve blown a lot of money for no reason). Fortunately, I’ve sold all the merch I’ve ever made, but I wouldn’t have had to invest so much money had I gone with an option like Shopify. What I like about that website is that they make the merch for you and will only make it if someone has ordered it, this reduces costs and eliminates any waste and gives buyers a direct place to make their purchases. Its very organized and artist-friendly, so I wish I knew about that earlier.
