Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marcus Stukes. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Marcus , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
Yes, I have been able to earn a full time living from my creative work. Started out going to college for physical therapy, after 1 year with a D average and not liking my major I went back home took a year off. During that summer break, my older brother recommended I go to school for film making being that’s all I was doing during that summer break, watching movies, no job, not in school, just kind of trying to figure my life out. Being a film major NEVER crossed my mind, I knew I loved movies, but I just thought you had to be a famous director’s son to even pick up a camera and learn filmmaking. Once my bro recommended film school, I did go to a community college to take basic core classes and intro to film classes then transferred to another school to further my film career but got denied into their film program. With being denied I then transferred to another school where they had an open film program. Took me 6 years to get a 4-year degree, I now have a B.A in film production.
During those college years I was also working full time at Target as well, so full time student and full time Target employee. After graduating college, I quit Target and searched for a job for 6 months in the film field where I found my current job on craigslist, where I’ve been for the last 7 years working full time as a Video Production Manager working with brands such as Nike, Jordan, Levis, Huggies Converse, Lacoste and many more iconic brands.

Marcus , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Name – Marcus Stukes
32 years old, I’m a Film/Video Editor/Director/Producer and UGC content creator. After graduating college in 2016, I quit my full time retail job at Target and searched for a job for 6 months in the film field where I found my current job on Craigslist, where I’ve been for the last 7 years working full time as a Video Production Manager working with brands such as Nike, Jordan, Levis, Huggies, Converse, Lacoste, 3Brand and many more iconic brands. Through this experience I’ve tapped into UGC (user-generated content) where I shoot UGC style videos for different brands such as Arm & Hammer, Stacy Adams, Aaron’s, LG, Snuggie and many more.
I love helping brands & businesses boost brand visibility for impactful growth through video and storytelling. When it comes to solving problems for my clients, I focus on delivering content that is both high-quality and aligned with their brand identity. I help brands effectively communicate their message through engaging UGC and video editing, all while tailoring each piece to resonate with their target audience. I take the time to truly understand each client’s likes and dislikes, so I can craft content that feels authentic to them, rather than imposing my own style.
What sets me apart is my versatility and the ability to offer a comprehensive range of services. From creating UGC for social media campaigns to producing and editing professional video content, I can handle every step of the process. I’m a director, videographer, video editor, and producer, which allows my clients to benefit from a streamlined workflow, ensuring consistency and creativity throughout all stages of production.
For potential clients, this means they can rely on me for more than just content creation—I provide a full range of video production services, from directing to editing, ensuring the entire process is seamless. I strive to elevate the brands I work with by producing content that not only looks good but also delivers the right message, creating meaningful connections with audiences.
I’m most proud of the relationships I build with brands and clients. Whether I’m working with major brands such as Nike, Jordan, LG, Arm & Hammer, 3Brand or collaborating with local businesses, I’m always focused on creating content that not only meets but exceeds their expectations. These projects are especially rewarding because they allow me to blend creativity with strategic brand storytelling, producing high-quality, polished videos that resonate with broad audiences.
My work with these iconic brands is something I’m extremely proud of, and it speaks to my ability to handle high-pressure, high-impact projects while delivering exceptional results.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I think the beginning of my story shows this. Being denied from different film programs, transferring and going through 4 different colleges in 6 years to reach my goal of getting a BA in film production. Being laughed at and told No over and over because I’m in film school following my love for the art.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, I am working on owning my own video studio in NYC where i can go and other can come for their own creativity.
