We were lucky to catch up with Marcus Samuel recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Marcus, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I was raised In a small city called Pensacola, Florida. I honestly never thought I’d be acting. Being that I was from such a small place… it was kinda far fetched in my mind, and I never thought about it. It wasn’t until I moved to Atlanta, GA after high school that I could expand my mind from such a small city like Pensacola , and see the endless possibilities in Atlanta, GA.. Fast forward it took me a couple of years to find acting.. I moved to Atlanta, GA in 2005, and started acting in 2015. I found an interest in writing, and performing music… Just basically still trying to find myself and my purpose in the world. I lost my job at Publix and I was trying to find out what my next move was going to be. I was online and I ran across a open casting call for a movie shooting in Atlanta.. I ended up signing up and going to the audition.. It was thousands of people in line and it was my first time in life being apart of something like this… After hours of waiting I went into the audition with my script and booked the role.. My very first time auditioning for anything… While I was leaving the audition a lady stopped me and told me to keep doing this. don’t stop. I don’t Remember exactly what she was saying but she was talking about my energy and my purpose, I never seen her again, but now looking back her words were affirmations to my life. Afterwards through meeting people on set of the movie I worked on. I obtained an agent and started auditioning for network television show. I also took it upon my self to take classes for acting and theatre to learn the art more and stabilize myself as a professional actor. That’s to sum it up without intense details lol.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Good question.. I usually look at myself as an introvert and fairly private person, but I’m working on that.. So I’ll answer this question to the best of my ability as detailed as possible. I was born in Orlando Florida and raised in Pensacola Florida. I Have an Older Brother who also Is in the entertainment arts field, but he found his passion way before I did.. I’m the late bloomer of the family… I also have other family members (sisters, brothers, Cousins) who are also in the entertainment field as comedians and actors… So to say the least its something that runs through my family, and I was the last to jump on the DNA train lol. It took me awhile to get into acting because I had a love for basketball and all my energy and time was spent trying to go to the NBA… Through high school, and a little college, but school wasn’t my strong point so to make a long story short. That didn’t happen.. After my love for basketball withered away(although I still play for fun) I was a lost soul basically just out in the world trying to find my way, and trying to find my niche. Went through the phase of hanging around the wrong crowds and blah blah blah.. you know the story.. I wanted a change for my life and didn’t know where to begin, but it kinda found me.. acting that is.. it came to me I never went looking for it. How it all started I was referred to do some extra work on being Mary Jane on B.E.T. Had no idea what I was doing and why I was there. I remember thinking to myself ” Wow I’m about to be on tv”.. Im from a small country city like Pensacola. This was definitely far fetched, but it was in my face… I did so much extra work after that just to sink myself into this film world that I knew nothing about, and I went off to thinking how I can get a role like the main characters, and from there I did my research until I figured it out… Of course the road is much ,ore detailed and longer than that to my accomplishments but that’s to some it up..
Im most proud of myself for never stopping and never giving up… I love this art and to be able to get paid to play different roles relive past situations or live out future situations.. while meeting and working with actors id never thought idm met in my life will always be surreal to me… but also a confirmation that this is my path.
As I strive to be the complete image of myself which is the best self of me that I can become on this journey my goal is to leave a path for others who were raised in a similiar lifestyle like I was, and to potentially create avenues where they can be uplifted into achieving their hearts desires in this world. Help others how I wish people helped me.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist I would say is the feeling of knowing that what Im doing is right.. When I inspire people or help individuals with advice or knowledge of acting and this industry and seeing them succeed is a great feeling.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Lol yea I wish I knew the business before I started acting. That would have helped and saved a lot of wasted time and frustration… Even though the road is bumpy. It still would have helped a bit.
