We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Marcus Reyes a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Marcus, thanks for joining us today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
Yes, I’ve been able to earn a full-time living from my creative work, but it took time, persistence, and strategy. Early on, I focused on honing my craft, networking, and taking freelance work to build experience. The turning point came when I treated my passion like a business, diversifying income streams through freelancing, licensing content, and launching my production company, Mad Titan Productions. If I could have sped up the process, I would have focused on branding, marketing, and selective collaborations earlier. Success in creative work isn’t instant; it’s about consistency, adaptability, and treating your art like a business.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a filmmaker, producer, and creative entrepreneur with a passion for storytelling that challenges perspectives and leaves a lasting impact. My journey into the industry began with a deep fascination for cinema and an unwavering drive to bring unique narratives to life. Over the years, I’ve built a portfolio of diverse projects, spanning film, television, and digital media, focusing on original, compelling stories that resonate with audiences.
Through Mad Titan Productions and various collaborations, I develop and produce films, documentaries, and series that blend innovation with strong storytelling. My work covers a range of genres, from crime dramas like Blue City to thought-provoking documentaries such as A Cry For Help: The Ajane Burt Story and immersive Sci-Fi like Shadow Society. Each project is crafted with a commitment to authenticity, high production value, and engaging narratives that push creative boundaries.
What sets me apart is my ability to merge compelling storytelling with strategic production, ensuring that every project maximizes its impact, regardless of budget constraints. I take pride in creating content that not only entertains but sparks conversations and cultural relevance. Beyond filmmaking, I also focus on building my platform MOBFI-TV, a streaming service designed to amplify independent voices in film, music, and media.
For clients, collaborators, and audiences, my brand is about delivering high-quality, engaging content with a bold creative vision. Whether producing an indie feature, developing a new series, or launching an original streaming platform, my goal is to shape narratives that inspire, entertain, and leave a lasting impression.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I launched my first series, Blue City, I had high hopes that releasing the first two episodes online would attract attention from major platforms. But after weeks of silence, no calls, no meetings, I started questioning what I was doing wrong. It was frustrating, but instead of dwelling on the “whys,” I made a choice: finish the project, no matter what. I realized that networks and executives don’t invest in ideas; they invest in finished, proven work. So I put all my energy into completing the series. Once it was done and released on Amazon Prime, it gained a large viewership, and that’s when the calls started coming. That experience taught me a valuable lesson: persistence and execution matter more than expectations. If you create something great, the right people will find it.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is seeing your work connect with an audience in real time. When I premiered Blue City at the New York Filmmakers Theater in front of 300 people, sitting in that audience and hearing their reactions, laughter, gasps, and moments of silence was the highest feeling I’ve ever experienced as a filmmaker. That instant feedback, knowing that something I created was resonating with people, was an unforgettable reminder of why I do this. Seeing a story come to life and impact an audience is what makes all the hard work worth it.
