We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Marcos “World” Paz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Marcos below.
Marcos, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful for me is all content that I make for my brand Local 2 Global. I started L2G in 2017 but it wasn’t until 2018 when we did the first video and since then I’ve been trying to make the next one my best one. My newest one is Wave 11 Out Now releasing 2 new shirts which you can see on the youtube link attached. This is important because I didn’t know what this could be when I started but, since then I feel I’ve created something that can become bigger than myself. Also, because it represents the mindset I have towards everything that I’m pursuing, “LOCAL 2(49) GLOBAL”.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
My name is Marcos “World” Paz and I’m a visual artist from 249, TX. I specialize in Music as a photographer, videographer, and designer for my brand Local 2 Global. Growing up i always had a camera and it wasn’t until high school when I realized I wanted to pursue this for the rest of my life. I graduated from The Art Institute of Houston with a bachelors degree in photography, while in school I also started to learn video and basic editing. Realizing that I wanted to branch off into both, I kept using and learning the software Adobe Premiere Pro on my own. I now film alot of music videos in addition to photography. I’m most proud of the video my friend and I shot for music artist Young M.A. in Miami for the song “Henny’d Up”. We were out there to shoot a couple music videos for artist Bryce Williams who we were with from Houston. On the second night of being there J’Mari ( second photographer/videographer) and I walked to get pizza, down the street from the W Hotel that we stayed at in the Brickel area. When we got back from getting the food we were at the elevators by the lobby and we both slowly recognized Young M.A. also standing by the elevators with a few other people. After a few moments went by J’Mari exchanged information with them for any possible opportunities in the future. We got back to our room and not thinking too much about it the next day came and as I got out the shower J’Mari is almost yelling that we got a response from them saying to meet up to record at a yacht party they were going to have later on. After meeting them at the location they sent, we go on a boat that began to take us out to the water. Growing up in NW Houston I’ve never had much experience with boats so the one we were on was nice to me shid, little did i know that was taking us to the bigger boat. Once we all got on board the bigger boat we began filming the rest of that day into the night. It was a surreal moment to be there recording but what really stood out was the view that we had. I will always remember how the buildings looked off the water at night, it inspires me to make the next trip there on the same caliber if not higher. As time went on I edited the video and while doing so I only used the song Henny’d Up because we had scenes of her during the day and at night rapping it to the camera. So I took it upon myself to edit the recap video the way I would a music video. Soon after that I sent the video and we were just waiting at that point. Some time went by but the night came where I was on my phone looking through Instagram to see Young M.A. posting my video with the title “Henny’d Up Official Music Video”. I really couldn’t believe it, I had to keep staring at the screen to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating. I quickly called J’Mari to tell him and he was as excited as i was. Time went on and the views of the video passed 1 million making that my first video to do so but definitely won’t be the last. It wasn’t until later on that year where the story continues. Young M.A. was on a signing event tour for her new cognac she was releasing. I found out the day of that her stop in Houston was 15 minutes away from me so i hurried up and went to the Total Wine where it was going to be. She wasn’t there yet when i got there so i had to wait a little bit but eventually she walked through to the back where we were. When i was next in line i could see that in the room there was a girl set up with the bottles on display. There was a lady at the entrance of the room that asked me how many bottles do i want but when i replied none she paused with a subtle puzzled look and began to let me in the room. Young MA was sitting in a white thrown like chair on a small platform in the center of the room with a few people near her. As the bottle girl gestured to the door lady about how many to grab she made a smart little smirk when she said none, little did both of them know i was about to change the whole conversation of the room. While walking up i said ” Last time i saw you we were recording in Miami”, she seemed a bit confused but when i began to talk more a guy who was there at the singing and who was in Miami chimed in and confirmed i was one of the ones that recorded the video. She began to realize who i was as i then added how i edited the video. She said, “It’s crazy we were suppose to do something totally different for that”, going on to say that simply based off of the way i put it together they liked it so much they made it the video. She then told me to keep going with what I’m doing and called me “official”. Finally learning her side of the story was crazy to hear and from everything that happened i am grateful that we went and got that pizza.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Growing up i would watch Wiz Khalifa’s “Daytoday” videos which were vlogs of his daily life that he would post on youtube. Not knowing, i realized when i began to film vlogs and music videos myself i subconsciously learned about trantitioning, sound , effects and other things that made me want to keep watching wiz’s videos.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being creative in your experience?
Being able to incorporate music in my career is what i love. I grew up around music all my life so it’s really something I’m passionate about just as much as documenting it. Also, what’s just as rewarding is seeing the finished product of any project I’m working on. All the extra things that come with this is cool but, my main concern really is the quality of anything im working on.
