We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Marcos Luis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Marcos thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
We are the sum of all of our life experiences, and with this, we are learned.. By sharing these experiences we teach. The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is my ongoing podcast. Each episode I start off by saying “I have questions” ,and I do. It is a time of discovery, conversation, and sharing information. Whether I am solo on the microphone or talking to a guest about a variety of topics including how we make ourselves whole, make the World a better place, or sharing life lessons through personal journeys to inspire and motivate my listener’s daily through inspirational journeys and destigmatize conversations about Mental Health Awareness.
Marcos, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Entertainment and the arts is in my blood. Growing up in a family of music and acting ,my entire family has been or are involved in the artistry of performance. Growing up with this type of environment allowed me to pursue a career in the Arts freely.
In 2006 I began an open mic on the West Village of NYC in a small restaurant to help generate business while I was working and it quickly grew into a spot where patrons wanted to come and Grammy and Tony Award winning Artists would perform. Moving to a large night club in NYC’s Lower East Side, I continued and expanded to huge Poetry, Comedy, and Indie Band performances. When The Pandemic hit, no live performances would happen and I switched OneMicNite, my company into a podcast, documenting stories and journeys of Creatives of life’s ups and down to inspire people who listen/watch. My guests include not only Artists, stars, ordinary people who enrich our lives through their impactful journeys, expertise, and societal contributions. OneMicNite podcast has become a talkshow and space to encourage better living, wellness, and artistic endeavors as well as the importance of human connection.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Support for Artists and Creatives is very important., and what can society do to support us?
This is the everlasting question. I’m not sure if there is one good answer, but I do know that having a space to allow creativity helps. Creatives are inspired by many things around the world. Many need resources to help aquire tools to achieve their vision which may require funding, so that becomes a main concern. Simple living needs while creating is also a concern , so many may be forced to have other jobs or multiple jobs while working in projects simultaneously. Now with Social Media , posting information, artwork (with accreditation alongside ) and creating artist communities is a big support.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The goal for what I do is to be an effective storyteller. Opening up discussions , make people think and question not only what they see but their own life and state of affairs. To see something jn a way you maybe hadn’t thought about before.
The mission is to make the World a better place through sharing stories whether verbally, musically, , artistically.. Create dialog, human connection. To help elevate human frequency
