Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marcos Jimenez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Marcos thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Off Orbit, a band with no limitations as far as the music it can make, and open to write about any subject matter.

Marcos, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve been playing guitar live on stage for the past 20 years. Entering my second year in High School I made a pact with myself that I will learn to play guitar like the Rock Stars I saw on TV. It’s not up to me to say how good I am today at guitar but I can say I’m proud of my progress and what I have accomplished live on stage and in the studio.
Over the years I’ve received many praises from my peers and from people I admire in music. I feel the music we make in our band is original and rooted from the type of music we like to listen to on daily basis. Creative freedom and acceptance is what makes the process of making music enjoyable.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I find that most non-creatives, especially at a later adult age when people are raising kids and stuff, struggle to understand the motivation behind what we do as independent musicians. A lot of people question the time and effort we put into our craft because it doesn’t seem we are in the path of becoming “famous” or rich from the music.
Some people like to discard it as a “hobby’ rather than a way of life or one’s personal identity. For people like us, who habitually pick up an instrument and come up with something of our own, the great satisfaction that comes from making an idea into something tangible in the form of a studio recording or a live performance, it’s sometimes hard for people who have never experienced that to understand and appreciate how fulfilling and addictive that feeling of accomplishment can be. It’s also harmless fun that doesn’t particularly needs to be fueled by alcohol and drugs. It’s music, it’s rock n roll, and it’s fun!
The fun and satisfaction that comes from having a great sounding band, can be part of and be enjoyed by everybody who surrounds it, supports it, and accepts it. All it takes is to let oneself go a little bit and get on a ride that’ll take you to new places, meet all kinds of people, and listen to great music. It’s sort of a fantasy world of fun unlike anything else, famous or not.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Our main goal and mission as a band is to make the type of music we can listen back to and be proud of over time. I really feel we have accomplish that so far. To make the type of music we would stop and listen to even if it wasn’t our own. To make the type of music we can listen to over and over without feeling tired or bored. To take it as far as we can take it musically without losing ourselves and the audiences we are trying to reach. For the most part we try to walk the fine line between experimentation and commercial acceptance.
Also, besides recording a great sounding tune, what motivates us is to be able to play our music on the biggest stage, with the biggest sound, to the largest crowd possible. Not because we think that would mean us becoming famous, cool if we do, but most of all is because there’s no better reward for a musician that a setting like that to just rock out and let all of that creative energy out into the open as loud and as far as possible!
