We were lucky to catch up with Marco & Miguel Peralta recently and have shared our conversation below.
Marco & Miguel, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I remember a time when I was about seven years of age. My brother and I were walking, and a friend asked us. What do you want to be when you grow up. I didn’t want to be an astronaut, a professional athlete, or a firefighter; I wanted to get paid for my brilliant ideas.
In our industry, as in any other, taking risks will determine how far you want to go. With this statement, I don’t suggest making foolish decisions but rather trusting your desires and going as big as possible.
The most significant risks we have taken are starting ventures where we have no knowledge or prior experience. For example, after the 2008 depression, we lost all our real estate investments and didn’t know where our lives were heading. So we went back to school to study something we always wanted to learn to realize we didn’t need a certificate to start a company.
We have always been very creative and resourceful; that’s all the certification we needed. So that’s how our first company started. CREA7E was a small agency dedicated to creating brands and ideas, especially for the real estate industry. Everything began to unfold from that moment; the right people and circumstances were always there to support our vision.
Once we established a good name for ourselves, new ideas took place. It was then when C.R.E.W. Miami – “Creative Real Estate Websites Miami.” was born. CREW was an extension of the initial risk we had taken; our business started to grow, and so our vision to take our ideas even further.
Not long after that, we needed a bigger challenge and a more significant dream, and our biggest start-up, P.A.N.D.A. IDX, began operating in 2016.
As we grew, we needed more help, so we partnered with people that knew more than us. We put together a team that added value to what we were doing but most importantly, we created a family with the same drive and vision.
Today we understand the value of taking risks but beyond the risk, believing that you are all you need to make things happen in your life. The confidence to move forward in your dreams’ direction will determine whether you succeed or die trying. Never underestimate the giant that lies in you, the master that knows what to do. Because when you validate yourself, the entire universe will also support and validate your dreams.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
What drives our company is the difference we make in the industry and our clients’ businesses. We are trendsetters and innovators in real estate technology; we offer value to our members, but mainly, we offer the ability to be more efficient in their real estate careers.
We always had something clear in our business model “product first,” and the money will follow. This standard has worked for us, and we believe it is the only way to stay true to our clients.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Growth comes in various forms; you can expand exponentially or gradually. To grow fast, we understood that we needed a significant investment which, for us, wasn’t the case. The primary investment for us was our time and dedication to our company. Sometimes we did not make any money because everything went into the company to stay afloat.
The way we structured our company based on our resources, we chose to rely on one thing to acquire clients: “our reputation.” People do business with people they trust and like, although you must prove you also offer a good product. In our case, we had created an excellent reputation in our industry and used it to get clients. Until today after six years in business, we have never paid for marketing.
Our product offers a lot of value, and people trust what we do, so they refer their friends to us. We are about 80% referral and 20% online searches from people searching for Websites for Realtors in Miami.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
A long time ago when we were in the financial industry we went to a Pat Riley (former coach for the L.A. Lakers) conference. We spoke for about an hour and until today there is only one thing we remember he said that day “Always do what you say you’re going to do”.
Honor your word because that is a contract and people will remember you for that. We don’t apply this just in business but in every aspect of our lives.
