We were lucky to catch up with Marcnificent recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Marcnificent, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I spent awhile recording one-off tracks for myself for many years and I also helped many others record their songs as a producer and engineer. And I shadowed successful acts during my first time to Los Angeles. And at that point, I was inspired to record my own original music and release it as one cohesive and thoughtful package. Soon before long, I release my first EP, Fortylove under the project name, GOAT in July 2015 and this is my most meaningful project. And this release jump started all the projects I have currently. My live act was accepted by Twitch just recently and I performed many songs from this EP at TwitchCon and other Las Vegas shows.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My start in the industry was as a Music Producer and Audio Engineer. I started recording and engineering bands and artists in the DMV area between 2007-2011 before temporarily shifting my priorities towards my solo music project. It was always a dream of mine to be able to create media, both video and audio, like the movies and music I consumed when I was younger.
When I was 11, I saw a bunch of kids rapping on BET and I thought to myself that there’s no reason why I couldn’t do this. I learned how to overdub record with two tapes and before the summer was over, I produced and recorded 3 rap songs with just a piano and microphone.
And a few years later, I got my first computer after convincing my dad to buy me one off my best friend’s dad. I mainly experimented with video and audio creation at the very beginning. Many CDs and DVDs were burned during this period.
Twenty years later, I have personally released several original tracks, I’ve worked with clients that synchronize music for TV, my music has been on the radio and in print. And my studio has evolved to that of the industry standard.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I started out utilizing media platforms such as YouTube, Facebook and Instagram with decent engagement. But I’ve been seeing the most engagement and growth with live streaming via Twitch. The community building is more personal and your followers are more willing to support you financially. My advice with any social media undertaking is to get started without overthinking it. Post material you believe in and continue to do so consistently, build a community of supporters and be present for them.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2011, I pivoted from producing music for clients to working on my situation. I wanted to eventually move to Los Angeles and to be able to support myself out there. I’d need to have a day job and to have finished music material to work with. I was able to make that a reality and eventually evolve my creative career to what it is today. And now that I’ve had everything in working order, I was able to invest in music and studio equipment allowing me to stream, make content, and eventually re-open the studio to clients.
