Growing up, the concept of a strong work ethic wasn’t just a lesson taught in my family; it was our way of life, breathed into every moment without us even realizing it. My parents were immigrants from Portugal who arrived in America in the 1970s, fueled by dreams of a better life. What they encountered instead was a whirlwind of chaos and hardship. They found themselves working two or three jobs each, saving every penny with a fervor that was nothing short of heroic. Their relentless dedication and sacrifice ultimately allowed them to transition from employees to entrepreneurs, opening their own business—a family restaurant where my dad, a chef, delighted our community with his culinary skills, and a “bodega,” a corner store, that my mom managed for several years.

This relentless spirit, this refusal to accept anything less than giving it your all, has been ingrained in me. Observing my parents pour their heart and soul into everything they did taught me that there’s no room for half-measures in life. You tackle challenges head-on, with full commitment, ensuring you get the job done. This lesson has been a guiding force in my life and career, shaping me into the person I am today.

I am a first-generation American, born and raised in Newark, NJ, to immigrant parents from Portugal. Since the age of 15, the drive for entrepreneurship has been a fundamental part of who I am.
