We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Marcherie Savage. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Marcherie below.
Marcherie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
My mom (Evette Savage) thought BIG and outside of the box! She was wise enough to avoid pyramid schemes and other traps and was creative enough to be an entrepreneur for over 20 years. She never pressured me to attend college unless my career of choice required it. She encouraged me to try new things and put my all into my work. I was there with her so I saw how being self-employed isn’t for the weak especially as a single parent with three kids, but her passion and heart kept her coming out on top. Her passion, love for Christ, and heart to help others led me to my career in marketing.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I entered the marketing field unknowingly via real estate. My favorite part of being a Realtor was getting traffic to the open homes. It was my chance to be as creative as possible to attract people to my listings. My principal broker at the time pulled me into her office and asked me to do one of her higher-end listing open homes. I was excited and ready to make what one might think of as a boring Sunday afternoon into an evening to remember. From there I went back to college and finished my bachelor’s degree in Communications at Tennessee State University in Nashville TN to pursue a marketing career.
I was living in Nashville but planned on moving to California to really break into the film/marketing industry but my mom suddenly passed and I decided it was better for me to become the guardian of my youngest brother. He wanted to stay in our hometown of Chattanooga TN so I moved back to take care of him. While doing so I learned of the progress that Chattanooga has made. We now have an innovation district, an incubator for small businesses, and a variety of FREE services for small businesses that attract founders from all over the U.S.
In addition to the resources being here, the need was here. I knew of and ran across sooooo many businesses with great products but who lacked professional marketing. I decided to help them with websites, videos, and logos to better position them to market on a global level. In this present day and time, Marcherie Jamene Marketing focuses on video production and billboard marketing. These two services have better positioned our customers and yielded the highest return on their investments.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I think NFTs are the future, and now is the best time to learn and experiment with them. I’m not an NFT expert but I think of them like digital pokemon cards. Some hold more value than others of course but learning about their value is important. I believe it’s also cool to collect NFTs from your favorite celebs, and what’s even more cool is purchasing NFTs that include exclusive memberships/services. I’ve had talks with partners about us designing and offering an NFT, so I’m looking forward to dipping my toe in the virtual waters. The best time to learn is now before it gets too expensive to play along.
Have you ever had to pivot?
In addition to Real Estate, I was an aspiring recording artist. But, when my mom passed I had to boss up for my little brother. Not saying I wasn’t handling biz before but being a recording artist is more on the liability side. You’re consistently spending money on recording, mixing and mastering, distribution, marketing, videos, photoshoots, hair, and makeup, etc. I decided to take the money I was spending on music and put it into my marketing career and open my business here locally. I think it was the best decision because, for one after my mom passed, I became very introverted. Performing on stage and networking with artists was the last thing I wanted to do. Another reason I have no regrets is the impact I’m leaving on my community now. Typically artists come back after they blow up and do giveaways etc, then they go on back to their lives. I’m not only feeding the people but I’m also here with them teaching them how to fish so that they can feed themselves. I believe the latter is the greater impact…and I’m JUST getting started!
