We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Marchel’e Perkins a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Marchel’e, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
Social Media is a tool all business owners should utilize. Your page should display great professional images that are eye-catching to the viewer. Wether it’s Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, TikTok etc… all businesses should be on a minimum of 3 platforms that is designed to highlight their business in the best light. As the operating founder and lead stylist of Elements of Style by Marchel’e, I manage my own social media platforms. In the past I have hired interns and paid them a small stipend, but I learned very quickly I was doing the work. I had to send the content, describe the hashtags I wanted to use, and come up with the comment for the post. This in turn created more work for me, so I now run all my social media pages. My pages include my personality, viewpoints, style advice, and content that showcase my work. Many of my post display my work as a host, speaker, style, my travels, and what I do to live up to my companies slogan “It’s a lifestyle, they’re always watching” There are tools in place to schedule post, but remember social media is about engagement and one must engage with there followers to be successful of social media.

Marchel’e, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As a Celebrity Stylist, Fashion Influencer & Entrepreneur I create fabulous ensembles that will change the way you see your wardrobe! I began my business Elements of Style By Marchel’e in 2016. Before I began my company, I was always stylish, interested in fashion, and could make my friends look good when it was time to go to an event or party. I was the one friend others looked to for advice. Many women and men have no clue what looks on them. They look at other people, follow trends and think they should look like that but, this is not the best way to develop your personal style. I assist my clients in maximizing their wardrobe by making sure they have essential pieces in their closet to build looks from.
I not only work with celebrities, but everyday men and women to show them how to get the most wear out of items they currently own by creating new styles and switching up the garments. I curate looks for one-time events, creative direct fashion photo-shoots, host fashion events and red carpets, and will soon add author to my list of accomplishments. I am must proud that I can utilize my formal education, and love of fashion to assist my clients through my fashion consulting agency.
“Fashion is one of the most powerful ways, you can express yourself, your emotions and who
you are as an individual, & I enjoy being a part of such a valuable opportunity with each and
every client.” States Marchel’e.
Any advice for managing a team?
When managing a team you must do that. MANAGE!!! It is vital to any company to have team meetings with clearly stated agendas. In my opinion meetings should be held once a week until everyone is confident in their position. This will ensure everyone is aware of any company changes, the floor is one to brainstorm, and everyone is in line with meeting the company goals. In the past I had a team. Marketing director, publicist, brand ambassadors, business consultants. You name the position I had it. Everything was running smoothly, and as soon as the team meetings slowed up, so did the productivity, efforts, and eventually the overall work. The team had fell apart right before my eyes.
I have more recently moved to Atlanta, Georgia and have to rebuild my team. I know exactly what it takes, and I plan to build a team of creatives which include writers, up and coming fashion stylist, photographers, and brand ambassadors for Seychelles Clothing which is a women’s travel fashion brand in which I am the Executive Brand Ambassador. I look forward to collaborating with other brands also.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
The best way to keep in touch with your clients is to communicate with them. That can be done by creating a mass email list, text once a week, or even commenting on their social media post. Anyway you can keep in the front of their mind will work. I always say I am in the “people business” so I must be personal. I send birthday messages, ask about their kids and work, and send them positive messages when I can.
When this is done, it is easier to market new products, offer discounts on services, and even inform your clients of sales because you have an open line of communication.
