We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Marcella Hurd. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Marcella below.
Hi Marcella, thanks for joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
What I believe it takes to be successful isn’t just a “plug in this puzzle piece to fit the picture”. It’s more of analyzing the picture, coming up with a strategy, learning your pieces, seeing which ones work & which ones do not. Being patient, tired & frustrated until you complete it. Then what’s next? You’ll obtain another puzzle that’s a bit more detailed & intricate. Being successful means to go through trials & tribulations. Having clear goals, making sacrifice’s, being dedicated & resilient will also take you far. Remember to always be a learner no matter how much you know because experience is the best teacher.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Marcella Hurd & I am the owner of The Rose Collection. I have been in the beauty industry for 6 years now & I have been a licensed esthetician for the state of California for 3 years. My interest for beauty began as teen, doing makeup & applying clustered lashes to myself, friends & family. Before TRC became who it is today, I was studying to become an elementary school teacher, although, I believe kids are the future, I knew that I needed more. So I took my hobby, it became my passion which led me to my now career.
I specialize in eyelash extensions, while also offering other services such as facials & body waxing. I have a small product line that I retail to both my clients & other artists in the industry. I am blessed that I’m able to share my knowledge & expertise with others who are interested in starting their business or need a push in a different direction. I made it convenient to offer house calls for my clients.
I make it my mission to provide excellent experience to each & every person I work with. I value their time & their business. I make it my priority to give them exactly what they’re seeking. I’m not only a service provider but I am a friend & a therapist to many. What I am most proud of is that I am able to make people (mainly women) feel & look confident daily, inside & out. I hope to continue to be able to educate & beautify others.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I follow back all of my clients & supporters because why not? Although my presence on social media isn’t big, I love to interact with those who support me. I have all of my clients contacts, where I like to check in from time to time, both new & old. It’s much more personable then sending a marketing email/text. However, I do use those as well. I like to build connections with my clients & go out with them so that they know that our relationship isn’t just transactional. I have a loyalty program set up as well, that clients can always see a return on their spendings. I make it a priority to stay in touch while they are being serviced & they are away. To keep these connections strong & so that they don’t forget about me & TRC. I listen & cater to them because without them The Rose Collection will have no value.
Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?
I do manufacture products. Finding a vendor was probably one of the most time consuming & costly things I had to do. I didn’t have a clue what I was doing. Vendors would reach out & I reach back out of who caught my attention. I love my current vendors but still am actively looking for more. (I’ll dive in this more later). Finding the right one takes years in my opinion. You don’t just sample a product, test it on a few & expect this to be the one. I had to purchase multiple samples of multiple products, check for ingredients, ensuring that quality matches what they preach, using the samples on multiple clients, cross sampling or seeing if the same products from the same vendor work well together. Once you’ve narrowed down your top picks, the process starts all over.
Lessons I’ve learned is to be sure that vendors are sending you the same quality of your sample as they’re sending you in your batch orders. I’ve received great samples then proceed with wholesale & the quality is completely different. Always be sure to do the MOQ until you are sure financially to increase your order quantity. Also, always have 2-3 vendors because you can’t always depend on one.
