We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Marcella Cardinal a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Marcella, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I have always loved Beauty; It doesn’t matter if I’m doing make up, a skin care service, or decorating a space. I love and enjoy using my hands to cultivate beauty. It is what lights me up and is so much fun!
Although I respect a woman who accepts every line on her face and who embraces the physical changes that come with getting older, I do not. That is not me! I enjoy and love finding the different ways to play that game of maintaining youth, because ‘why not’.
I don’t know if I will ever have plastic surgery, but what I do know is I will do everything I can nonsurgically and non invasively to maintain youth. I have had fillers in the past, but the problem I’m noticing as time moves forward is that they accumulate an eventually made my face look unnatural and there was a lack of motion, which is also not me! I’m all about a natural, youthful look. Thats when my mission became even clearer: to create effective treatment protocols with cutting edge technology that give real results without looking unnatural, so that there’s movement (which is in itself youthful!)
I also noticed there was a gap between traditional facial services and the medical spa industry/plastic surgery. I fill the gap between traditional facials and more medical procedures, such as fillers, threads, lasers, or surgery. And the great news is, that if my clients ever do decide to have plastic surgery, everything I can offer them will only benefit the state of their skin and prime it more perfectly for it, as opposed to creating complications.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I began in the beauty industry long before I started working. My mother was a paramedical aesthetician with a very successful practice overseas. She was very innovative at the time and as a child I would travel with her every summer to search for new treatments, machines and protocols that would serve her clients with the latest most cutting edge products.
This planted the seed that has served me today in always seeking out the things that truly work. I am very particular about what I stand behind, and have invested a lot of myself in multiple ways to offer the best.
I offer non-surgical, anti-aging results for women 35 years and older who are not yet ready for plastic surgery (now or ever), and who prefer not to use filler.
I have been in the skin care industry for over two decades and I have trained internationally. I love my clients and I love creating specific, bespoke protocols, tailored especially for them. I not only trust my experience and knowledge, but I trust my intuition. That and the fact that I love people is my secret sauce. I won’t work with anyone I don’t feel I can serve at my highest level.
My craft and my expertise is not just about doing anti-aging services. It’s about connecting and creating a difference in someone’s life.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Being afraid of standing for what I believe in and being fully seen for all of me was not serving me or anyone else. I now realize that those are the things that had been waiting for me all these years in order to step into all I’m meant to offer at this time.
For example, I’ve never liked being in front of a camera and forcing myself to do so, specifically on Instagram has actually become really fun.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Being transparent, honest and truthful. Integrity goes along way in building relationships, whether it be romantic, a friendship or with a client. People get an innate sense, whether they’re conscious of it or not, when you aren’t being truthful. I’ve noticed that it’s the way of new businesses and how they rise. It’s not about a number, it’s about the person and building that relationship and trust.
