We were lucky to catch up with Marc Santamaría recently and have shared our conversation below.
Marc, appreciate you joining us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I truly believe that the path we follow is always the right one. That’s why I think I didn’t start my creative career early or late, I started at the right time when I had to
The life of someone important to me suddenly changed and I didn’t want to be left behind again. I know what it’s like to have everyone continue with their lives except you. That’s why I had no choice but to start moving and lose the fear of sharing my art with everyone else
If you are afraid to get what you want, you lose but so slowly that you don’t realize until it is too late. So I stopped thinking that I wasn’t good enough to achieve it and I took the step, the step to succeed as an artist and to reach that person who had unintentionally changed my life, not just hers
Marc, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
From the beginning I was not only interested in reaching out to other people through my art, but also in uniting people in an art community, both artists themselves and art enthusiasts
A community about creativity and design whose motto was always to become a place where all colors are welcome, colors as an analogy for all those things that can make a difference between people. Inclusivity was always the basis of this, because artists know what it is like to be treated as different by the majority of people
As a creative person, I think that on a canvas there are no better or worse colors, only different ones. And of course they always fit together as long as we are willing to let them fit
From here I think we have come a long way, people from all over the world have joined our community. It has grown so much that it no longer only covers topics related to art, recently we even created a mutual aid group within it to support each other
I suppose that among artists we understand each other very well and that is why we can understand our problems more easily. This is one of the things that excites me the most right now, the fact that we are not only inspiring others but also helping them within our possibilities
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
By improving myself, it is also possible to improve the world around us. My goal is to give my best as an artist to make the world more beautiful and suggestive for everyone
If it is possible to modify moods simply by using different colors, why not use art to improve people’s lives? Colors, shapes, content, everything to improve our reality and be able to appreciate it from a much more positive perspective
And not only that, by inspiring myself I can also inspire others, because that is where the key lies, the fact that we design the world together
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Being an artist is not a profession, but rather a way of life. That is why people who are not artists will never fully understand us. They will always think that artists are different from everyone else
You don’t become an artist, you are one in some way from the moment you are born. And what makes you an artist is not that you make a living out of it, but that you feel the need to be creative
And if you get to the point where creating takes up all your time and thoughts, then there is no turning back, you will be willing to give up many things to keep doing it
Those who are not familiar with this will never understand us, that is why artists understand each other better
