We recently connected with Marc Johnson and have shared our conversation below.
Marc , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
FIORELLA Nashville came from finding inner happiness by stepping into my repressed creative side. After years of Event Sales Management with various hotels and venus, I had lost touch with my creative side and thought that a facet of my life needed to be nurtured to feel a sense of self-accomplishment. This arose from the thought, “Why do I still feel incomplete even though my corporate career has sufficed for years?”. After about a year of toying with ideas and concepts, I was still trying to figure out what I felt truly needed and deserved. I went from event consulting to event rentals, etc. Nothing fulfilled me, so I went back to the drawing board. After falling into a slump from not nailing down what I needed creatively, there was a moment when I needed to step back and look at this from a different angle. Then it came to me, what was the one thing in my life that still seemed to make me stop and appreciate; flowers. I remember the moment it came to me; a wave of release came over me, and I had that light-bulb moment! But it seemed impossible to start something that I had an interest in but needed to gain experience in. To do this correctly, I needed in-depth knowledge of florals and design. From then on, I spent most of my early mornings in the floral wholesalers before work and late into the evening, focusing on all things floral. The knowledge flourished from reading floral encyclopedias such as “Flower Color Theory.” to purchasing particular florals to see how they react in different real-world environments and scenarios. My natural eye for design curated the overall unique aesthetic and followed in tow with my newfound floral education. The journey wasn’t a walk through a meadow, but my heart kept pushing forward through the long nights and the “what have I gotten myself into?” moments.
Over time my confidence in my designs and myself grew, and it clicked with me that this is what I should be doing. From then on, I pushed to see how quickly I could excel and become a floral force in Nashville. FIORELLA became what it is today me creating designs that provoked emotion within me, and the business is established on the concept of bringing that same experience to my customers. Something that forces you to stop and appreciate it and its fleeting beauty.
Marc , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Marc Johnson, and I am the owner of FIORELLA, a floral design company in Nashville. I turned my passion project into my business. The need to fulfill a creative aspect of my life was the steering component that drove me to jump headfirst into the floral industry.
FIORELLA provides luxury floral designs for events, weddings, daily arrangements, etc. We specialize in bountiful floral designs with natural growth always kept at the forefront of our design principles; it sets us apart. Since opening a year ago, we have overcome many feats, milestones, and accomplishments. From our floral designs showcased in music videos to a few accolades under our belt, there is plenty to be proud of, which pushes us further and further.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The emotion attached to the reaction is what completes me as a floral artist. Never looking for a particular emotion but more so the presence of emotion. That wave from the initial reaction helps me decipher emotional intelligence, which in turn assists me in creating moments and stories through florals.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I primarily used Instagram to grow my audience on social media, but it takes more than just posting. Along with posting consistency, I had to discover consistency in my overall aesthetic. Measurable growth became apparent when a cohesive concept was applied to my social media outlets.
