We recently connected with Marc Hoberman and have shared our conversation below.

Marc, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with education – we’d love to hear your thoughts about how we can better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career.

Having taught for over 35 years, I have taken my struggles as a teen with an illness along with my classroom experience to help others become successful. I believe that there is a tremendous connection between academic and life lessons in school and success in the workplace. As the owner of Grade Success Education, I realize the importance of academic success, but Character Education and proper communication skills is essential in school, family, and the workplace. We must combine academic and character education in order to help young people become successful adults. I live and teach by my mantra, “Don’t let your struggles define you; YOU define you.

Marc, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I combine the Marc Hoberman brand with the Grade Success Education Brand. I offer academic sessions with either me or members of my staff based upon the needs of the client. We offer virtual tutoring in all subjects and grade levels including English, Math, Social Studies and Science. We have over 30 years teaching SAT/ACT Prep as well as College Essay Assistance. Grade Success also provides video courses for those who want to learn at their own pace as well as Master Classes for parents and students on a host of topics including Study Skills for Health and Wellness and To Reduce Stress.

I offer school programs on a host of topics including Anti-Bullying, Leadership Skills, Substance Abuse Prevention, and Overcoming Adversity.

I am the host and creator of Life Stories with Marc Hoberman featured on e360TV, my YouTube channel, and Best Ever Channels (BEC) with more streaming services being added in the coming months. My show features interviews with celebrities, authors, professional athletes, educators. Emmy, Tony, and Academy Award winning actors/actresses, and more. My focus is “the story behind the glory.”

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

I was diagnosed with epilepsy after suffering a seizure behind the wheel of my 1977 Mustang at the age of 16. I was depressed for 2 years and it was a struggle to deal with my sickness. After researching my illness, I decided to embrace my illness. When I wrote my best-selling memoir many years later, I realized I could help others succeed despite obstacles that they view as insurmountable. If a book like mine existed when I was a teenager, my parents and I would have dealt with my diagnosis much more effectively. I use my experiences, strategies and philosophy to help others achieve their full potential.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

I learned how important it is to stop and think BEFORE reacting. I often acted too quickly years ago, and this hurt my decision making. Now, when I take the time to examine all sides of a situation, the emotionality is removed and thinking becomes clearer and more effective. Reading self help books, learning from my talk show guests and talking to others to share ideas is a much better way of improving every day.
