We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Marc-Anthony Sinagoga. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Marc-Anthony below.
Marc-Anthony, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Is there a historical figure you look up to? Who are they and what lessons or values have you learned from them?
I’m going to say the brand Coca Cola. That brand has one of the most unhealthiest beverages on the planet or at least has been labelled as such for the last 80 years but they are somehow the most successful brand in their field. This is because they market happiness. They invented the image of Santa clause, the North Pole, the fantasy of a winter wonderland where polar bears ride roller coasters. It’s incredible that a company that started as a remedy thats main ingredient was cocaine is responsible for the white beard, red suited man that kids take pictures with at the malls at Christmas. It’s not what you do, it’s how you do it. They make something awful but market happiness. It’s genius. They inspire me to sell the emotion you get when you book me as a comedian.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a stand up comedian. I tell jokes for a living. My job and purpose is to make you laugh, on stage and on social media. I’m proud that I’ve been able to monetize my passion into a full time career. I pride my self on being an open book, I draw from my life, when you come and see me live or go on my social media, you are watching what’s happening in my life currently. If your a fan of mine you will see that you are growing with me as I experience life.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
The pandemic! Who didn’t have to pivot am I right. Live shows got cancelled for just about 3 years. I had to figure out a way to make money, stay sharp, keep performing and feel like I was making progress. I decided to switch my approach to online zoom shows. I started contacting corporate companies to provide mental health work breaks for their employees by tuning into a virtual comedy club. I created a 2 camera angle comedy club with professional audio and video so that you could get more than just a zoom show. It was a huge success!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Keep trying new things and get out of your own way. For me the biggest problem I had growing online was listening to myself. I always doubted the quality of my content. Was it funny? Was the audio good enough? Was it edited well? Was the film quality good enough. This stopped me from posting frequently and stopped me from trying new things. The most important thing is to start and stay consistent. It will shape itself. The first season of the simpson’s, Seinfeld, South Park, etc, we’re all terrible! But they kept going.
