We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Marae Torrelier. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Marae below.
Marae, appreciate you joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
Yes but it was not easy. At first, I started as a travel blogger but it took a long time to find clients. Then, even though we had clients it was not enough to do it full time. It wasn’t until we started trying to fulfill our main customer’s needs that we started growing our business. We realized a lot of moms wanted more than travel inspiration. They wanted to see what was at the destination but also, how to get there. That’s when we started focusing on teaching new moms how to effectively travel with their babies and toddlers so they could continue fulfilling their dream of travel after having kids.

Marae, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
In 2018 my husband and I decided we should be creating content and sharing our travels with the world because at that point we were already traveling 6 months out of the year. In the fall of 2018 we began learning about instagram and blogs and in early 2019 we got our first partnership with a Hotel. We proceeded to showcase what it was like to travel as a couple and to enjoy varying destinations until our baby was born in 2020. Initially, we thought we would just do family travel blogging, but then we noticed the most prominent questions pertained to the flight and “how to” aspect of travel rather than the destination.
That’s when we decided to start Travel Family Academy along with our partners, who are also parents of a toddler.
Since 2021 we have created content, inspired and educated audiences and helped thousands of moms (and some dads too) navigate airports and flights with their babies and toddlers.
We love the community we are building but what inspires us the most is seing all the little globe trotters we see around the world thanks to our corse, The ready to fly mom, which helps prepare moms for what to expect on flights with their toddlers.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
In 2021 I started a new instagram account geared towards helping families travel with babies and toddlers: @travelfamilyacademy When I started building that community from 0, I met @dreamofvoyagers who are now our business partners. We spent 2 months in Greece in the summer/fall 2021 as part of work with a hotel there, and when the hotel told us they were looking for more content creators, I did not hesitate once to recommend our new friends, who, on top of being awesome, created beautiful content as well.
When we met in Greece in the fall of 2021, the click was instant. We all felt the need to fill the gap there was in the family travel industry, and we wanted to create a larger community of parents who wanted to continue traveling because they had kids. The next day after they arrived in Greece we bought the domain “travelfamilyacademy.com” and immediately got to work. A year later we met in Bali and recorded our signature course “The Ready To Fly Mom” after almost two years of research, testing strategies and compiling information. When we launched the course the response was amazing and we knew once and for all that what we were doing had tremendous value. Today, the academy has helped thousands of moms combat flight anxiety with preparation, empowerment and a game plan. And we like to think we have also helped flights be better for other passengers too, because who wants a screaming child on a flight?
Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
Yes. We run the academy where we teach parents to travel with babies and kids but our goal is to teach many other subjects such as making money online (so you can travel more), growing a following on instagram so you can make a living from your phone and spend more time with your kids etc. Besides this we run a social media marketing agency focused primarily on juvenile and children goods brands, and we offer influencing management services to the moms we coach in our community.
