We were lucky to catch up with Mara Marini recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mara, appreciate you joining us today. Do you take vacations? Why or why not?
Yes, I definitely take vacations! It’s crucial for me to reset and recharge. Stepping away not only helps avoid burnout but also sparks fresh inspiration. I’ve found that having a reliable team and systems in place makes it easier to take a break without everything falling apart. For entrepreneurs, my advice is to remember that time off actually makes you more productive in the long run. Trust your team, delegate where possible, and plan ahead, so you can fully enjoy that much-needed vacation!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For those who may not know me yet, I’m Mara Marini, a Canadian-born actress, writer, and entrepreneur. My journey into the world of acting began at the young age of four after seeing Marilyn Monroe on our television set, and after getting my hands on anything I could in Winnipeg, I moved to LA to study at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts under the Princess Grace Scholarship. Since then, I’ve been fortunate enough to work on some incredible projects, most notably playing Brandi Maxxxx on NBC’s *Parks and Recreation*. You may have also seen me guest star on *Schitt’s Creek* or *black-ish*, and I recently worked on *Doogie Kamealoha MD*, which was a dream since I got to film in beautiful Hawaii.
In addition to acting, I’ve expanded my creative passions to writing and producing. I co-wrote, co-starred, and produced *A Play*, which was a huge success, winning multiple awards including Best Actress and Best Writing. I’m currently working on several comedic projects, including a short film I co-wrote, and I’m actively developing a few half-hour comedies. Ultimately, my goal is to create and star in my own sitcom, because bringing joy and laughter to audiences is what I love most.
Alongside my work in entertainment, I’ve embraced entrepreneurship. I run a clinical collagen business, and I recently launched Viral Vogue Rentals, a monthly clothing rental subscription service that combines trendy designs with sustainability, a cause I’m really passionate about.
What sets me apart is my ability to juggle various roles while staying deeply connected to my craft. I’m proud of the relationships I’ve built in the industry and the creative work I’ve been able to produce. My brand is about delivering entertainment that makes people laugh, feel inspired, and confident in their skin. Whether through acting, writing, or my business ventures, I’m always looking to uplift and bring something new to the table.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
A major goal driving my creative journey is to bring joy and laughter to people. Whether I’m acting, writing, or producing, making people laugh and feel good is at the heart of everything I do. Comedy has an amazing ability to connect people and make them feel seen, and that’s something I want to continue sharing with the world.
At the same time, I’m also deeply passionate about making a positive impact on the world through sustainability. As an entrepreneur, I launched Viral Vogue Rentals because I wanted to contribute to curbing the harmful effects of fast fashion. The fashion industry has a huge impact on our planet, from contributing to climate change to violating labor laws. I believe it’s essential to promote more sustainable practices, not just in how we shop, but also in the way we treat the people and animals affected by the industry.
Through Viral Vogue, I’m aiming to show that we can look amazing, express ourselves through fashion, and still make eco-conscious choices that help the Earth. By combining creativity with a commitment to sustainability, I hope to inspire others to think differently about their consumption and embrace change that’s good for the planet and all its living creatures.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building my audience on social media has always been about staying true to myself. I believe people connect most with content that feels genuine and authentic, so I’ve always made it a point to share things that I truly believe in and that resonate with me personally. Whether it’s behind-the-scenes moments from projects I’m working on, my thoughts on sustainability, or just sharing a laugh, I never post anything that doesn’t feel 100% real to me. (Side note – I have always prided myself on being an early adopter to apps – I was on Twitter when it first started – they sent me shirts! )
I think my audience appreciates that honesty, and it’s helped me grow a community that values those same things. At the end of the day, social media is a platform for connection, and staying authentic is what keeps that connection real and meaningful.
