We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Manya Yeva. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Manya below.
Manya, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I started my “We Are Loud Women” series after this past election. I have always been very proud to be a loud woman with many opinions and I was super heartbroken by the election results. I started to think about all the ways women would be impacted, whether it would be through our reproductive health, our rights, deportations and so many more. This prompted me to start this series. I wanted to do everything I can to uplift women’s voices in a time where we were going to be suppressed by the incoming administration. While my project is new, I have already started to feel the impact of these super important conversations. Hearing about the most important women in a persons life, how societal standards have affected them, how different cultures treat women and how many similarities we all really have, regardless of our backgrounds. I have had women thank me for creating this platform and tell me they feel like this project will help so many who are fearful of their future. We are so much stronger together and community is what is needed for us right now.

Manya, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Manya, I’m 30 years old and I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit about me. Most of my career has been working in HR, marketing and administrative type roles. I have worked in many industries- tech, wellness, public relations- and have learned a lot about business. The thing that stood out to me is how much I enjoy connecting with people. In 2021 I decided to start a hot sauce company called bklynsaus. I think food is the best way to facilitate human connection and cooking has always been my favorite thing to do. It was the best (and worst) time of my life! I learned so much about myself and what it means to be a woman in business but also about the hardships. It allowed me to connect with so many people that I otherwise wouldn’t have had the privilege of meeting. I ended up closing bklynsaus after a 3 year run but I wanted to continue making those connections. That prompted me to open bklyngathers, an event planning business. I have been doing weddings, birthdays, and so much more. I love watching the most special moments in someone’s world come to life! While I’m still doing events, I am now shifting my focus on my “We are Loud Women” series. It makes me feel extremely blessed to have the freedom and opportunity to follow my passions wherever they take me. I think that’s why my series is so special to me. Many women don’t get the chance to be themselves and follow their passions because of the circumstances they might be in. I want to provide this opportunity for any and every woman to feel seen and heard. Whether someone is a “loud woman” or not, they get a platform to use their voice and inspire other women to find that voice from within to speak their mind, follow their passions and feel seen.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building an audience on social media is extremely difficult. I myself am still on this journey but the thing that always rings true is that people love authenticity. I have had so many videos go viral where I am just sitting on my couch talking- no editing, ring lights, or props. I have been invited to speak on talk shows and podcasts just because I was being me. People can tell when you’re over producing. Don’t worry too much about the followers or likes- those things will come. Just continue staying true to yourself!

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
With so much going on in the world, my mission with “We Are Loud Women” is reach. I want to reach as many people as I can. People that might be feeling isolated, alone and afraid of what’s happening in the world. So many of us have a story to share. People deserve a chance to speak about the things that shape their life, whether it’s their traumas, wins, losses, regrets. The best thing a person can do is inspire. If I inspired just one person through these stories, I’m going to feel like I did my job with this.
