We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Manuela Hoyos a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Manuela, thanks for joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?

the name of my company came with the conjugation of the first two initials of my sister Name (Marcela) and me (Manuela) and we complement it with Craft, which is what we do. that’s why we’re called MAcraft

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

We are from Cali-Colombia, we move to United States in 2013. We arrived when we were 17 years old and we did not know any English. We started studying in high school, then college. We were in different jobs throughout this time.

In 2020, we were going to graduate from pharmacy technicians and in that year the pandemic began and everything came to a standstill. We lost our job and college; We began to think that we could do extra to generate money and also pass the time that we were locked up.

We were watching videos on a digital platform and one in particular caught our attention that showed things we liked (crafts). We began to investigate more about that and how we could generate money with it. we invested our savings in merchandise to start our project today called MACRAFT DESIGNS LLC.

We are very proud of ourselves, because we didn’t think we could get this far with a product that we had never made before.

The messages we receive on social media from other people telling us that they would like to be like us or do what we do so perfectly, fill us with great joy because it means that we are making a great legacy for others.

Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?

yes we also sell through our website WWW.MACRAFTDESIGNS.SHOP, which was created by Play Digital Marketing (playdmarketing.com) many thanks to them.

sales through a website requires a lot of consistency and patience, since we must create trust and credibility every time a customer enters our page and provides their card information to pay. Who is not afraid to enter personal data on a page that we do not know? for this reason our page is always directed to cause confidence.

Some disadvantages of a web page is to be able to reach many people and not only that they enter but also that they buy.

but it also has several advantages and one of them is being able to start creating a community of reliability so that people can talk about your page.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?

My sister and I had money saved over the years that we worked, and we wanted to risk it and start this business. we have not collected what we invested, but we never say that it was a loss… our favorite word is ALL THIS IS AN INVESTMENT
