We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Manuela Beato a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Manuela, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
In order to be successful we need passion, discipline and consistency.
No matter how talented we are, if we are not disciplined in pursuing our passions and don’t challenge ourself every day to get better and better, we will not go very far.
Discipline and perseverance are the main keys for success and prevent from failure. No one has achieved success without being consistent and disciplined.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Since I was a child I liked to communicate and I was dreaming to become a teacher. I always tried to improve my speaking abilities, my appearance and my image. An increasing number of people, friend first and then entrepreneurs in the makeup and fashion business who noticed my style for instance when I went buying makeup products or new clothes, asked me several questions about my makeup and dressing styles.
Every time I was asked about my makeup style I felt so excited and passionate. When replying to each specific question paid lot of attention to explain every single detail and my passion and talent were noticed so opportunities to start new projects arose quickly.
This is how my first business started, MB Makeup, where I taught the art of apply makeup and I opened two stores, makeup studios and accessories. I was in this business for 10 years, then I felt the need to expand my business and started to teach about image, etiquette and oratory to fully help successful people to improve their image and create a personal branding.
After completing my education I was certified to formally train companies and professionals, so that now I offer a portfolio of services. I teach workshops on professional image, effective communication, customer service, business and social etiquette, work ethics, leadership, public speaking for professionals, personal branding, among others. All linked to projecting the correct image of the company and the professional.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social networks are very important in these times, we should be on them since our clients are there. The key to success and increase the audience is to create a proper image of yourself. Create a personal brand around your services or product, adding value and being persistent in posting.
Today people are looking for more than a nice profile, they want to learn, know about you, that you can give them something and that you are not just looking to sell your products or services. That is why I have created the personal branding course for professionals, to help them create a solid brand consistent with their goals. No matter what area you are in, or what you do, we are all a brand and we need to have a presence on social networks, but such presence must be managed with purpose and strategy.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Since the beginning of my career, having the opportunity to use my own style to shape any of my products has been a very rewarding experience. When creating a new product I add my personal touch to it so it becomes unique as reflecting my culture and my style. It’s a form of art and as such it is unique. We must feel free to be ourselves and contribute to divulge our authenticity, it is the most rewarding thing about being creative… expressing ourselves!
