We recently connected with Manswell Peterson and have shared our conversation below.
Manswell, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with talking about how you serve the underserved, because in our view this is one of the most important things the small business community does for society – by serving those who the giant corporations ignore, small business helps create a more inclusive and just world for all of us.
My organization serves the community by helping children during the school year and for the holidays
Manswell, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started writing at an early age because it helped me deal with a mom with a drug addiction. I learned early on that reading and writing can take you places by using your imagination. Even during my time in the military, I would scribble short stories just fir the fun of it. After leaving the military, I took my writing more serious while obtaining my education.
The hardest story that I ever wrote was Tracks of My Tears. I wrote this for any young person who might be dealing with a parent and drug abuse.
What sets me apart is that I will talk to any reader that has read any of my books. I have a dedicated cell phone just for readers. It allows me to stay in touch and make my relationship with them more personal.
What I am most proud about is the creation of the Locrottum Universe. This was a 10 year project that was finally brought to life and will have over 200 books from this universe.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I have one particular goal in mind. When I think about television, I think about Dick Wolf and Shonda Rimes. I have created over 15 T.V. shows and 10 movies. My goal is to have 3 of my shows on a network playing in three prime slots(8 p.m., 9 p.m., and 10 p.m.).
To accomplish this, it helps having the readers engaged and talking about my books.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I first begin, my professional writing career, I would actually use any editor that I could find. The results I received was gambling in Vegas. Some things were good and some things were bad. I had to learn to use people(editors) who actually cared about their craft, It cost me extra money but now I see it as an investment well spent.
