Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Manny Blue. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Manny, appreciate you joining us today. So, let’s start with a hypothetical – what would you change about the educational system?
Money, taxes, and credit are some key important things in our lives, yet we don’t learn about it in school. The world runs on money and again we don’t learn about it in school. Yeah, its cool to learn about history but be honest with yourself, when was the last time a history lesson helped you pay your bills? Got you approved for a loan? Helped raise your credit score? or built your credit? The educational system is so outdated, and change need to be made. Will there ever be changes that will benefit us? Maybe, maybe not.
I would start by implementing basic financial literacy in Middle school, perhaps 7th or 8th grade and make it a mandatory class to pass in High School. Things like how to handle money, properly saving, the 2 types of interest rates and which one is better, personal credit, how to build your credit, how to buy a home, how life insurance can be an asset. I believe is fundamental. I would also include personal development such as critical thinking, communication, building yourself confidence. etc.
Personally, I think I could have made better choices financially as I was growing up. I think a lot of people can agree. Lack of financial knowledge drove me personally to dig myself into a hole to the point where I saw no way out. It led me to a level of depression where I contemplated suicide. I felt as if I was working to pay bills and struggle, barely getting by. It was a life I couldn’t phantom living in. I can’t blame the educational system for all my financial mistakes but if I had at least basic knowledge I believe I could have made better choices. It is what drove me into my mission to empower the people around me. Luckily today we have the internet and access to so much information that can be helpful. I also have launched the 2nd edition to my kids book “Kids and Finances 101” now available on amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C5YT17G6/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_3FQA2G91Q7KR1RZ0MBDR?linkCode=ml1&tag=mannyblue-20 to help parents start planting the seeds and perhaps learn together.
Manny, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I spend my teenage years into my mid 20’s pursuing my dream. I always thought that I would make a living and a career as a recording artist. That was my passion and I got to live that dream but live happens. Little did I know that I was meant to do more. Although 2015 into 2016 there were some dark times for me mentally, those dark times led for me to work on myself and find the solutions that I personally needed. As I previously mentioned, it led me to start my own company geared to empower the underserved communities by sharing basic financial knowledge such as credit coaching, properly saving, strategizing getting out of debt, how to leverage a life insurance policy and the importance of having one. What brings me so much joy is knowing that I am doing something positive for the community and or when someone I helped was able to accomplish a goal or have peace of mind. My experience of losing my confidence in the process led me to write my first book and open the doors for me to become a keynote speaker in the process. I’ve had the honor to share the stage physically and or virtually with some amazing individual like UFC fighter Wanderlei Silva and Royce Gracie, Erik Sorenson, Ray Higdon just to name a few.
I focus on helping and giving back as much as I can in any way possible where it will make a positive impact and a difference which is why I have partaken in Project Uprise whose mission is to help end child trafficking.
