We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Manlike DEJI. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Manlike below.
Alright, Manlike thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I am an individual that firmly believes that everything happens for a reason and at its one time and I tend not to spend too much time looking back on things but if I had to go back in time, I would have definitely started my creative career sooner mainly because the more you work at something, the better you get at it.. Also because as a musician you need as much time as you can to perfectly hone your skills and talent as the type of creative you are.
I had just finished college when I first started so I really didn’t give my my creative career the attention it needed.. All the while being grateful for the experiences I have gained as a result of my academic career.
Looking back, the only thing I would have changed would be I wish I took my creative career as seriously as I took other things in my life at that point.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve been singing since I have been a teenager and I started writing songs around the same time. I was also in the choir, both in the church and I realized I was very interested in composing my own songs.
What sets me apart from others as a creative in the entertainment industry I believe is the fact that I am able to self-express my emotions and experiences with my music and my ability to convey that vulnerability to those who listen to my music in a relatable manner
What I am most proud of is that ability to self express and story tell with my compositions
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Music to me is a weapon of self-expression. It is one of the channels I feel I have been blessed with and two things that are the driving force behind my creative journey are – I want to be a voice to people that find it difficult to express certain feelings and experiences they go through
– I want my music to serve as a bridge between Africa, specifically Nigeria and the world
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
– The most rewarding aspect is getting positive feedback from people letting me know that my music as impacted them in one way or the other and that motivates me to continue making music.
