We recently connected with Manfred Delgado and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Manfred thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
Growing up I remember thinking my parents were tough with me. They we strict with things that seem normal to us as adults but were stressful for a a kid. Since I could remember (and I can clearly remember some of my earliest childhood memories, like learning to walk on our front terrace and learning to ride a bicycle with my dad. Table etiquette, waking up on time, learning to use a watch (learn the time), being punctual, learning that if we started a task or a hobby, we stick to it until completion, were things that were enforced by my parents and they were a great deal to me at that young age.
I remember wondering why these things were so important and why we had to do them a certain way. Growing up and through high school and then college, I started noticing how important all of these days for my daily life and work life. Punctuality has been a huge one in my life and it has open doors, specially living in a city were the norm is to always be late.
I feel like having grown up with love, unconditional support and while still instilling rules has been something that my parents did right. and for that I will be forever indebted to them.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a multidisciplinary contemporary artist. Primarily self taught, moved from Costa Rica to Miami at a young age with my family. I’ve always had a passion for art since as early as I can remember.
My work spans a variety of mediums and scales. I’ve worked on human scale works such as sculpture, actual people, and canvas pieces, as well as Wynwood Murals in excess of 100 feet wide. My work throughout the United States have helped to distinguish myself in my unique bold art. When it comes to doing art for my customers, I like to be very flexible while still sticking to my individual technique. If you know what you want and you ask me to do a wall of your logo, I can help. If you’re completely lost on what you want, I can help in the creative idea to render something together that you’ll like.
My work takes inspiration from both urban environments and nature alike. known for my vibrant color choices and bold, yet perfectly balanced compositions. “I find inspiration from everything around me, from conversations with friends and family, a visual incentive from nature, or simply a past moment or feeling I want to re-live thru my art.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Most important thing is to buy art from living artists! lol The dead ones don’t need the money anymore. But in all seriousness, support your local artists, share their work, commission them in return for money, not social media shoutouts. Being an artist is a job just like being an accountant or a plumber is.
Art has been, is and will always be incredibly important to humans. Since we used to draw on caves, to incredible works of art. Art can emphasize an idea, a feeling, an illusion, a religion etc. And every piece that we do as artist is a visual document that tells a story on its own.
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
It’s hard to say. I am currently the artist for an ambitious NFT/ Hospitality project in Miami, FL. I think there is a lot of potential for the future and for art on NFT’s but it’s’ a bit too early and too new for most people. It’s like learning a new language, like the internet in its initial stages. But in a mass sense I can see how they can be very beneficial in the future, for example. NFT’s can be created as concert/ event tickets, or hotel reservations. Your NFT is the ticket and the art is your visual memory for that specific benefit you got from buying it. They are unique 1/1
