Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mandy Kimlick. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Mandy, thanks for joining us today. Can you tell us about an important lesson you learned while working at a prior job?
Before jumping into the music industry, I taught elementary school. My favorite grade I taught was Kindergarten because the kids were so excited to experience new things and inquisitive about the world. They learn through their play and natural curiosity. That idea of wonder is something I’ve always tried to keep woven into me and how I approach the world.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Mandy! I’m a music manager and creative. My husband is not only my business partner, but the artist I manage! (for those wondering- yes- we work really well together!). As a music manager, I really consider myself more of a business consultant- that specializes in the creative space. I’m really good at developing a big picture, and then actionable steps to get there. (Years of teaching paid off after all!) What I am most proud of is myself and husband! We have built a self-sustaining company and brand in a really hard industry. We’re making a living off art- which is super cool and hard to do.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
There is a set schedule or recipe for success. I see way so many posts on” how to be successful” or “how to be a millionaire” that state you need to wake up at 5AM, workout, meditate, read 20 minutes, etc, etc. That is all so arbitrary. And having a set schedule may work for some people, but What time you wake up has no effect on your success. Sometimes I get creative waves super late- and instead of sticking to a rigid schedule- I go with them- stay up an extra hour or two being super productive and sleep in. I used to think I need to be at my computering working from 9-5 to be successful, but the beauty of having your own business is you can set your hours. I’ve learned when the project/call/email etc is done, then I can be done, too. I don’t need to give myself busy work to fit an arbitrary model.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I feel like I’m always making pivots in my business! These used to seem scary and anxiety producing, but I’m learning to reframe them and enjoy that I have the ability to pivot. That I’m not set on one way and can adapt and change at any time. I was really active on social media for a white and hated it. It didn’t feel authentic. I pivoted away from it and things are better then ever. Business is doing better, I’m in a better head space and it showed me pivots can lead to happiness!
