We recently connected with Mandi Lee and have shared our conversation below.
Mandi, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.
I am a completely request only food company. I do not work off menus, I make custom dishes for each person. I find this keeps my creativity flowing. It also allows me to build my skill set.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I had been working in the food industry for about 7 years when the pandemic hit in 2020. I lost two jobs that year and needed to figure out my next path quickly. It was such an uncertain time but I didn’t think twice about diving into to starting my own business. Thus, Grace & Butter was born.
I spent the majority of my career in pastry. I didn’t want to be boxed in when I started my biz. I loved cooking but never found myself on the line. It was the perfect opportunity to try anything and everything. So I did. I hosted a tea party, I started making food for weddings, I had a ticketed supper with a pie bar, I dabbled with pop-up’s.
Grace & Butter at it’s core is a forumula. People + Food = Memories.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My company name. My name isn’t Grace, it’s Mandi. Grace and butter are my two most used ingreidents. I try to positively impact each person that I work with or come across. Those things combined make a huge impact on my brand reputation.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
You. Cannot. Do. It. Alone.
You’ll need support in ways you cannot predict when you own a business. I recieved help from the most unlikley people and stopped expecting help from some of those closest to me. I maybe the one in the kitchen all day making food but my Dad will walk in with a cold fountain Sprite (my fav) and my mom will wash a mountain of dishes without me asking for a thing.
Accept help and never be afraid to ask for it.
