We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Malvena Walker a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Malvena, thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump back to the first dollar you earned as a creative? What can you share with us about how it happened?

I created a formula that relieves eczema flare ups and a few church members noticed, asked me about and bought the product.

Malvena, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Malvena Walker, affectionately known as Nena is from Compton, CA.

After many years of suffering from eczema, which was unsuccessfully treated by prescription medicine, Nena decided that she wanted to find an organic, plant-based solution to resolve her ailment.

And after several years of intensive research and personal challenges, I successfully formulated a plant powered creams with essential oils that resolved her eczema.

Soon after, her husband, Paul was diagnosed with diabetes and was placed on prescription medication. Not only did Paul’s medication have multiple side effects, it was not solving Paul’s condition and could lead to additional complications that compromised his quality of life.

Nena devoted herself to investigating the causes of both eczema and diabetes. And after several years of intensive research and personal challenges, she successfully formulated naturally based creams and oils that resolved her eczema and created an alternative treatment for Paul’s diabetes.

Today Nena’s Organics is fast becoming a successful boutique product line with inventory of over 70 unique plant-based products. Products include: Ex Balm, Balm of Gilead, Lymph Detox, Hair Growth Stim, Nena’s Glow Skin Brightening System

Is there mission driving your creative journey?

My passion is people and whatever I can do to heal them, I try to do, including researching their ailment and finding plants and herbs to resolve it.

I was bullied in high school for having eczema and a few other things. As a result, I’ve become an advocate for the underdog. My creation of Plant Powered Healing products allows me to help the les fortunate overcome their bullies and tsunters by helping them resolve their skin, body and mind.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?

I lost my job and was unable to take another one. So, I created everyday toiletry items that costs the most and began giving them to my church members. They told me they resolved many of their issues. So, I began selling them at farmer’s markets and then music festivals, pop up events. When COVID HIT, I pivoted to the design of my website where I sold these Plant Powered Products online sales and that led me to a brick and mortar, which I said I’d never have, but here I am.
