We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Malory Ruesch a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Malory thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
It was 9 PM, I heard a knock on the door. I opened the door to see no one there, but a white envelope on the doormat. I take the envelope and walk inside.. my roommate looks at me slightly confused, and asked me what it is. I open the envelope and inside. We’re just two papers. One that was congratulatory and would free me, while the other one, a full 402 reduction of my entire record.

Malory, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a motivational speaker and author of the book Inspired to Recover, that travels the country and speaks to High School’s, prisons, rehabs and corporate America staff to teach and bring awareness regarding underlying causes, red flags, and help the process of healing from addiction. I was facing 30 years in prison at the age of 19 due to the decisions I made in a deep addiction. On the day of my sentencing, a man walked in and saved my life..
this man became the answer to everything prayer I’ve ever had by becoming a father figure, mentor and building my confidence while teaching me how to live life clean.
I don’t only deal with addicts, but family members who have been damaged because of active family members or friends.
I am the CEO of Ruesch Recovery, and we have an annual event every year called the Healing Utah success Summit. This event is to teach motivate and inspire our community to connect..
I save a lives by sharing my story

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Generational repetition. Breaking the repetitive cycle of addiction. In order to get some thing different I had to do something different.. I help individuals focus on healing the pain and questioning the anger or trauma.

Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
I didn’t choose this profession it chose me. The events that we go through in life become our biggest strength. Today I am using my pain to ignite my passion..
Healing is the ultimate goal.
